A Sinner in Mecca (2015)
Kept me involved
A fascinating look into a religion. *How* I feel about what I saw in this film is beside the point. The documentary brings the viewer closer than any non-Muslim would usually expect to get.
Through the film I kept wondering if the filmmaker, aware of the outsider's view via his iPhone, would succumb to doubts. So the film was interesting not only for its inside look, but also as a look at this practicing member's navigation of his religion.
Ocean's Eight (2018)
The climax suited me just fine.
I'm not surprised at all the flak this one's catching. It was a very different sort of heist movie.
I'm female; watched with a female friend. We both enjoyed the slow build. And no, it didn't have an explosive climax but sometimes subtle and easy, culminating in exquisite tension, strikes just the right note.
I've only rated it a 7 because, as some other reviews pointed out, the characters didn't click with each other in a way that makes a movie really good.
But for sure, now I'm curious to see more movies with an estrogen vibe. Let's mix it up, there's room for different.
Little Lunch (2015)
There's some Rory in all of us!
Not just for kids, it's a fun lighthearted show for anyone in the mood for smiling!
Every episode makes me laugh, and every one of the kids reminds me of some part of myself.
I like how each episode is really two mini-episodes, so if you only have a brief break you can still enjoy an entire story.
Thank you, Netflix, for bringing this brilliant Australian program to your American viewers.
Escape to the Continent (2014)
Addictive for armchair travelers
Sometimes this program makes me want to jump through the screen and home-hunt with the people on the show!
Nicki Chapman is my favorite of the hosts who accompany British couples to countries on the continent who are seeking a potential new home in a new country.
Not only is viewing fun because the couples are all so different, but it's really interesting to get an introduction to countries I know so little about.
Thank you, BBC, for another great show. I only wish that every episode gave an update summary at the end. I really enjoyed David and Rada and can't help but wonder how everything turned out with that sweet property in Slano!
