Netflix hits GOLD!
As a true story this gem is really unbelievable, but truth often is stranger than fiction. This depiction of the happenings was brilliantly done, well acted with an intelligent, down to earth, script. The viewer can really feel part in the happenings.
Kaitlyn Dever as Marie Adler played this role to perfection, showing the emotions and repulsion this teenager had experienced. Merritt Wever and Toni Collette, as the two detectives, were also marvelous.
A top miniseries from Netflix and the best yet from this stable.
The I-Land (2019)
Long-winded but somewhat different
The first episode was somewhat intriguing, the second less so and by episode 5 it was boring of the same stuff over and over again. A confusing change in episode 6 going into 7 where it eventually reached a conclusion and all was revealed. Not a good story but somewhat different.
If you have nothing to do, perhaps it helps you pass the time, but by not watching it you have missed nothing! However, I cannot agree that it is terrible as most reviewers allege.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
A slight improvement
The Avenger movies have deteriorated over the last few years, but Spider-Man seems to improve. Far from Home was good viewing, but there is still too much nattering taking place between the action scenes. The humor, however, is slick, so the movie qualifies for an overall rating of 5
Echo in the Canyon (2018)
What was supposed to be an enjoyable memory back to the 60's with the songs of The Byrds, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and the Papas etc., turns out to be a long-winded talk-talk show reminiscing those days, with a few bars of a song here and there in between.
Even as a documentary it is a total flop with no merit, best forgotten immediately!
The Spy (2019)
An average movie with some merit
As a true story it is not a glamorous nor memorable tale of espionage. it is painstakingly slow in development, spread over 6 episodes, too long for keeping one spellbound. Certainly not a movie for entertainment, only having merit as an historic event.
Another disappointing chapter
John Wick cannot die, even after been shot a couple of times, thrown off a building and hitting a balustrade hard on the way down. He then disappears to fight another day.
A movie with impossible fight scenes, more incredible than in chapter 2, makes a total mockery of film making. Just another game for computer game players without being in control. If you're not a gamer, forget about this movie.
Dark Phoenix (2019)
Nothing Wrong with this Movie!
Why some people always moan and grumble about a new movie in a series? Is it because the old actors are not in it? And on top of it why the lies? Are people that malicious?
A large number of written ratings from reviewers rate this movie badly, not worth seeing, the worst movie ever made, giving it a 1 or 2. This is surely all false news.
Ignore these reports and see the movie for yourself. It is a most enjoyable original story of high caliber with enough action to please the real fans of X-Men.
Carnival Row (2019)
Another one bites the dust
A dark series in the physical sense, starts putting one off if you cannot really see the picture. Besides this nothing actually happens and like many other failures it's a talk-talk show. It took me less than one episode to reach this conclusion, so you can keep your elves and other mythical creatures and if unsolved murders are in the center, you can keep this too! Another series bites the dust.
Watched seven episodes to date but this endless and wasteful nattering is enough. What is supposed to be a space sci-fi story is just one big bore and I won't be seeing anymore.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Not for me
I have never enjoyed the previous MIB movies and found them very childish, extremely boring and not funny at all. Yet, I saw the trailer for MIB International which looked different with some nice action scenes in it.
How wrong I was! This movie is no better than the previous lot. The action was all in the trailer and nowhere else. Another childish movie for infants and I was bored to the end, feeling sorry for myself for not opting out when I thought about it half way through the movie.
This is no joke. How anyone can enjoy this hazy pack of monsters, a mockery of people and void of any story, is beyond me.
This movie reputed to cost about $170 million is a waste and could have been produced on a computer for a fraction of the cost. It seems that too many people have lots of boodle to waste in making this movie and viewers parting with hard earned cash for nothing, is a gargantuan farce.
The Living Desert (1953)
This movie made in 1953, remains one of the few tales about desert life over a year, packed in a ball to cover it all. Accompanied by music and a fantastic display of the animals doings to stay alive, this movie clearly shows how life thrives in difficult circumstances. Truly a living desert.
Aladdin brought back the Arabian Nights for me to spent 2 hours in total bliss and enjoyment. Did not expect such fantastic production. No more need be said!
Another Life (2019)
Has its moments
All the negative reviews are unfair. It appears that those reviewers have an unwarranted ax to grind just for the sake of moaning. I almost gave this show a miss, having read these reports.
The show is refreshing and watchable. It is slow in parts but has interesting moments, promising a better next season!
It is good sci-fi and can yet develop into an excellent show. Looking forward to a continuation of this saga. Netflix gets my thumbs up for creating this series.
The Rook (2019)
Looked good in episode 1, but by episode 4 one has lost all interest. We have the same situation coming up all the time with the main actor having written notes to herself not to pursue the path she is on. Repetitive and boring with not much else happening.
A thrilling ride into escapism
Thinking that this movie was like a Die Hard flick of yesteryear I never attempted to watch it till now. How wrong can one be?
This is a brilliant movie of impossible feats, giving an excellent thrill a minute fest outside and inside a burning skyscraper. You can't go wrong if you are looking for something different. Turn your logic off and enjoy the ride of a lifetime.
Frankenstein Created Woman (1967)
OKay for nostalgia
Viewing this movie for the very first time in 2019, i must confess that it was like all the other Frankenstein movies from Hammer, pleasant to watch but not much horror. True, I found these type of movies actually scary in the 60's, but times have changed and so have I.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Cute and enjoyable
Too many reviewers have already given comment, so to keep it short, this movie satisfies most viewers, including me. Looking forward to the next installment!
Hotel Mumbai (2018)
A good portrayal of what happened at the Taj Hotel in 2008. The only drawback was the muffled audio, which lacked clarity making it difficult to understand what was being said.
Terrorism, jihad or freedom fighters are all made of the same cloth seeking an idealistic result, but sowing death wherever it occurs.
The Royal House of Windsor (2017)
A Balanced View
This series is a well composed synopsis of the House of Winsor over the last 100 years. Many people will have their own views about what are the real or accurate details of this period, but unfortunately emotion distorts the actual happenings. The availability of the previously undisclosed correspondence between various parties, makes this point of view, balance the history.
Captive State (2019)
This movie is extremely poor viewing and consists of talking heads and not much more. It is disgraceful to note that of the 16000 ratings to date, over 5700 each were for 9 and 10. This is probably faked and perhaps manipulated electronically by a hacker. No others ratings have ever been as skew as this!
Don't waste your time. The administrators should look into this matter.
The Hot Zone (2019)
Ebola is the new scourge of our World and a danger to mankind. Viruses have the ability to become resistant to drugs and newer drugs have to be developed to constantly keep dangerous illnesses in check. Malaria, for example, is spread by mosquitoes and current drugs are no longer effective treatment. Killing the mosquitoes now seem to be the easier method to eradicate this ancient illness.
Ebola has no cure presently, but some drug development has given hope for treating patients. The latest outbreak of Ebola in the DRC (previously Zaire) is not contained and may yet get out of control. Previous outbreaks have caused some 12 000 deaths, but with newer strains of Ebola it may be much worse. The Spanish Flu of 1918 (a virus outbreak) caused 50 to 100 million deaths worldwide, some 3 to 5% of the then world's population.
This miniseries gives a proper insight into the dangers of the Ebola virus and the extra-ordinary steps having to be taken to contain an outbreak. Well worth seeing.
Summer Stock (1950)
I am not a real fan of old musicals, but this film was a delight to see. The tap dancing was excellent and the subtle comedy was enjoyable. Definitely a movie to entertain and uplift any viewer.
The Society (2019)
What's the point?
Watched 2 episodes before looking at the trailer, which gave the clue that society will break down and two groups will arise, probably trying to wipe each other out. Big deal, not for me.
There are enough other series to keep one interested and watch for pleasure, excitement, enjoyment, adventure, mystery, etc. The society is lame and having started to watch it, leaves no one but me to blame. Another Netflix dud that is fraud, so I am out.
Lancaster Skies (2019)
Overrated and boring
Not knowing who wrote all these good reviews, I decided to watch this flick. I found it extremely boring and nothing of interest. Perhaps the British who lost about 55 000 of 125 000 airmen serving in the bombing raids on Germany, had some connection or respect for these men who died in defending their country, rated it much higher for this reason.
