*** this is my first review on IMDb, so it will be jumbled, and there WILL BE SPOILERS***
Let me start by saying that ST should not be used as a tool for actual daily political or war propaganda. You have JAG, 24, and bunch of other popular shows for that. And this show is plagued by over-focusing on USA/UK motives. Intro puts you in the mood right from the start. No Gagarin, cosmonauts or USSR insignia anywhere in the re-cap of humanity's achievements that led to space age? Only US flags, astronauts and Space Shuttles? Nice. For a first deep space mission from Earth, crew is rather uniform in geo-political diversity: American hero, Texas cowboy, Brit, Japanese and an Afro-American, and later some more US Gi:Joes. What, China, Russia, France, Germany and rest of world don't get a say in space exploration in future united world? Just US and allies? Nice, again. Enemies are conveniently named Suliban, their HQ Cabal, they attack in cell-ships, can blend with local population... gimme a break, it screams "Taliban, from Kabul, who operate in terrorist cells". There was no decency to even properly change the names, so intrusive and obvious the message had to be? And then we get an unprovoked large scale attack on US soil, which triggers the plot for season 2. And to top it off later, Nazi aliens have invaded and occupied East Coast. Oh, how will the crew of Enterprise save the USA yet again... Filler episodes about 19. century abducted cowboys on alien planets, Vulcans crashing and living in US mid-west mining town, time travel to 20th century Detroit to prevent biochemical terrorist attack, gunfights with Germans in WW2 NYC streets ... The Universe sure has a pick on Americans, doesn't it?
This alone is enough to prevent any non-American from giving the show a chance, because ST is all about global tolerance, equality and cooperation, not USA world domination.
That put aside, there was potential to be realized here, especially with the Romulans plotting, and Xindi mission served a purpose, it gave a direction to the inconsistent and randomized story. I liked focusing onto details about Vulcan and Andorian culture and society, as well as their relations with humans as emerging new power. Terra Prime movement and mass xenophobia was also a good thing to portray. But then again, episodes varied greatly in quality and relevance, and when you get 3 consecutive bleak episodes, say, about Trip and random alien girls, the pace is lost for good. And time traveling on grand scale always sucks. It's just too naive and contradictory. Mirror episodes were intense and interesting but it was too little, too late.
I liked Scott Bakula as capt. Archer. Doctor and T'Pol were fine (I don't mind her sexy jumpsuit uniforms. That line was crossed long ago by 7of9, and it's not THAT much distracting), rest of the crew were so and so, with Mayweather practically being unnecessary. Of course, Jeffrey Combs as Shran was awesome.
Uniforms, scenery, ships, and animation were OK, but all in all... it failed, and deserved to be canceled.
