Entre les murs (2008)
Realistic and educational; Yes - Entertaining and thrilling; not so much..
If you're looking for a slice-of-life, documentary style film about the subject matter - this one hits all the marks, I guess. The acting and technical elements of the film are also just fine, and it does have some really great moments, but...
My problem with the film, is that it just isn't that entertaining - the "dramatic" episode that the film revolves around isn't very dramatic - I've seen a lot more exiting stuff going down in the school where I grew up in Denmark - and let me tell you - not a whole lot went down there either...
And considering how little actually happens, 2 hours is way too long to keep things interesting.
Blå mænd (2008)
This movie is NO fun!!
I couldn't believe my own eyes when I read some of the review here - did we watch the same movie!? Let's just keep it real here for a moment - danish comedies that are actually fun are a rare species, and being the best danish comedy in years isn't saying allot - but this movie ain't that movie - in fact it's probably the worst danish comedy in years! It's totally predictable and has virtually no laughs. None of the characters have anything going for them - but the script is the main culprit here - just shocking how lame these jokes are! Me and my girlfriend had heard form a bunch of people, like the ones who praised it here, that this movie was great, so rented it with quite some expectations - so imagine our disbelief when this stinker was over! Anyways, what I'm trying to say here - If your looking for laughs or any kind of entertainment Blå Mænd isn't what you need!
Role Models (2008)
I'm not laughing!
Don't believe the hype! This movie just isn't very funny! I hate it when people give away the whole plot in these reviews, so I won't - not that there's too much to spoil here. The acting is pretty solid, and I must admit that, once again, Paul Rudd is great, but most of the dialog just isn't working. And let me just say - the whole thing about role playing games in this movie is just BORING!!!! I get it - they're nerds who dresses up like nerds - but they're still cool in they're own way - so what!? I think at least 1/3 of the movie centers around this very uninteresting subject, and it just kills the pace of the whole thing! To put it short - unless you just have to see everything Paul Rudd, steer clear of this one.
The Devil's Tomb (2009)
Worse than expected!
Watch out guys - the review saying this movie is "surprisingly" good - is being sarcastic! - it's actually pretty dead on if you're in on the joke - maybe I'm just slow, but I did not get it - and now it's too late - I've wasted my time on this pile of s...! I guess a movie titled " The Devil's Tomb" is never gonna be Oscar material, but I still expected some kind of dumb entertainment of some sort - but what a letdown! Only fun to be had is trying to keep track of all the dumb moves this crew of "elite" soldiers pull off. It's truly a special team Cuba Gooding has managed to form here - there's a rookie on board too - everyone makes fun of him - but he might just be the wisest of the bunch. Speaking bout rookie stuff - this movie is just so poorly made that it's impossible to get into on any kind of level! What I'm trying to say is: whatever You do - DON'T waste your time on this one!
Deja Vu (2006)
Outrageous yet entertaining movie.
I can justify watching all sorts of movies - as long as they find a way to entertain me - and I guess Deja Vu succeeded in that department - it's quite a fun ride. That being said - the story..... where to even begin!? I couldn't believe my eyes as I read some of the user reviews here - some how some people find it to be good-great!? - That's just wrong! The technology this team have at their disposal is amazing to say the least- the stuff that they can do and the stuff they can't do is pretty mind blowing - all though Denzel doesn't seem to have too much trouble accepting the rules of the game - but he's always on top of thangs I guess. Writing the script must have been one big struggle to try and explain how this whole time-travel thing works. In the end - it doesn't - but if You can ignore this minor detail - the plot being one big hole - then You'll probably be alright.
I had high hopes for this one, having read all kinds of great stuff about it - like it being one of the scariest movies of all time. I turned down the lights and the volume up and got ready for 75 anxious minutes.... What a letdown! Apart from the last 10 minutes or so this movie isn't effective at all - just annoying as hell. The female lead will be pushing all Your wrong buttons within seconds! I can see why everyone in the movie isn't behaving calm intelligent - they're in a very tight spot indeed - but do they have to be so damn annoying all the time - my patience was worn down to the tread watching this one. So while it had it's moments, it just wasn't scary - and that's why we watch movies like this right?
