Blumhouse TV Teases Adapting Another Movie Into a Series

During the panel entitled “The House That Horror Built: Inside Blumhouse Television” at the Atx Television Festival, the heads of Blumhouse talked about the future of the studio and what stories they’re looking to tell through TV. We all know Blumhouse for the horror movies they built their reputation around, but they have also brought us some surprises over the years, like the Oscar-winning film Whiplash, the sci-fi thriller Glass, and the latest films that gave a new feel to the horror genre, Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Us.

The studio is looking to branch out and tell their stories in the form of TV series. Co-president Marci Wiseman said, when talking about the direction that the studio is looking to head, that “Blumhouse is not just about the monsters under the bed, but [about exploring] things in the world that scare us and keep us up at night.” Executive

Emmys 2019: Drama Submissions Rise Alongside Final ‘Game of Thrones’ Entry
Voting for the 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards is now open, and despite many heavy-hitter dramas such as “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Stranger Things” and “Westworld” sitting out this year’s race, submissions have actually increased in that series category.

Call it a sign of peak TV refusing to actually peak, but this year sees 165 entries in the drama series category (up from last year’s 159). This race has increased in competition, not only due to new series such as “Homecoming” and “Pose” being on the ballot for the first time, but also because of the rule change that saw previous anthology series bumped from limited series competition to drama (see: “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” and “The Sinner”). Recently canceled series such as “The Passage” and “The First” still submitted in drama, despite only being one season long, as well. Of course, the one series to watch most closely in

Blumhouse TV Execs Tease Adapting Another Blumhouse Film Into Series – Atx

  • Deadline
During the Atx Television Festival panel “The House That Horror Built: Inside Blumhouse Television,” Blumhouse TV co-presidents Jeremy Gold and Marci Wiseman as well as the division’s Sahar Vahedi and Amanda Spain, took a deep dive into how Jason Blum’s multi-genre studio looks bring unsettling everyday stories to television.

On the feature side, Blumhouse is known for creating thriller and horror pics, and the TV side is looking to expand that through different lenses. “Blumhouse is not just about the monsters under the bed, but [about exploring] things in the world that scare us and keep us up at night,” Wiseman said.

Spain said they create projects and stories that make difficult subjects to watch and that they hope the masses come out for. The film side did it with Jordan Peele’s Oscar-nominated Get Out, and they are taking the same approach to TV.

‘The Infiltrators’ Series Adaptation Based On Sundance Film In Works By Blumhouse Television

Exclusive: Blumhouse Television has optioned the Sundance award-winning documentary-narrative film, The Infiltrators from Alex Rivera and Cristina Ibarra to adapt as a scripted series. Jenniffer Gomez will write and produce the adaptation. The critically praised film premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was honored with The Audience Award: Next and The Next Innovator Prize.

The Infiltrators, a hybrid of real-time documentary footage and dramatic reconstructions, tells the real – and surreal – story of three young undocumented immigrants, Marco Saavedra, Viridiana Martinez and Mohammad Abdollahi, who in 2012 dared to defy the system by embarking on a high-risk mission to infiltrate a secretive for-profit detention center. By intentionally getting detained by the Border Patrol and voluntarily surrendering their freedom, these “Infiltrators” went into detention to uncover cases of abuse, organize behind bars, and help other detainees (and themselves) eventually get free. The story is a jail-break — in reverse.

Fear Street Begins Shooting This Month, More Join Cast

One of the upcoming horror movies I'm most interested in checking out as soon as possible is 20th Century Fox's three-film adaptation of Goosebumps author R.L. Stine's teen horror series Fear Street. Yeah, you read that right - three-film adaptation. This is like The Lord of the Rings meets a PG-13 horror-thriller such as Blumhouse's Truth or Dare. The movies are all set to begin filming this month in Atlanta with Honeymoon helmer Leigh Janiak directing the first and third films, while Her Smell director Alex Ross Perry will helm the second motion picture. Benjamin Flores, Jr. has joined the cast as well.

Benjamin Flores Jr. is best known for roles in such action-comedies as Michael Bay's fifth entry in the Transformers series, Transformers: The Last Knight, and Tim Story's Ride Along starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. Flores Jr can next be seen in Netflix

‘Sacred Lies’: Blumhouse TV Series Redefines Cult Following On Facebook Watch

  • Deadline
The way that fans interact with their favorite serialized entertainment brands is shifting and changing all the time in this social media era but the goal of actually incorporating fans into the creative process in a meaningful way has been the most elusive of social media’s many promises. An intriguing vanguard on that front right now comes from the Facebook Watch series Sacred Lies, a Blumhouse TV production that has hard-wired its fan community into the show’s Season 2 writers’ room.

Sacred Lies, the evocative story about an amputee and cult survivor, has harnessed its robust Facebook footprint (661K followers and 38.5K members) by opening up the writing and show-running process in a way that is more instructional than purely promotional. The most active fans are likely candidates to join the ranks of the show’s “Keepers,” which means they have an active voice in some casting, designing and narrative choices.

R.L. Stine's Fear Street Trilogy Locks in First Cast Members

R.L. Stine's Fear Street Trilogy Locks in First Cast Members
I loved the books of R.L. Stine growing up. I spent most of the first half of my middle school years reading his kid-horror series Goosebumps and then I spent most of the second half reading his scarier teen-horror series Fear Street. In fact, I still own several Fear Street books. Needless to say then that I'm excited about Fox and writer-director Leigh Janiak's upcoming three-film adaptation of Stine's Fear Sreet. And today we have word on the first castmembers to join the movie(s) in the form of up-and-comers Kiana Madeira and Olivia Welch.

Kiana Madeira and Olivia Welch will each be playing, "Gay teenagers trying to navigate their rocky relationship when they're targeted by the crazy horrors of their small town, Shadyside."

On top of that, we're also hearing that each actress is set to appear in all three films and will be playing two different characters
