Janet tells Michael that she has been glitching, the latest glitch which is the obvious cause of the earthquake. Janet says the glitches threaten the existence of the neighborhood. Janet being a true Good Place creation (the Bad Janet which could not have pulled off the ruse over Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason), Michael is uncertain what is causing the glitches and has to do his research clandestinely as he knows if Vicky finds out, she would use it to blackmail him further or tell Shawn. After consulting the Janet user guide and speaking to her about the timing of the glitches, Michael believes he has found the cause which does not have an easy fix. Janet comes up with a drastic measure to fix the problem, the drastic nature of it which may be difficult even for Michael to carry out. Eleanor Shellstrop: So, let me get this straight. You want me to convince Michael to turn you into a marble because you're causing earthquakes because you're sad about Jason to whom you were once married because he's currently sleeping with Tahani?
Janet: Correct.
Eleanor Shellstrop: I don't think I've ever meant this literally, but that might be too much information.

Janet and Michael is the Best The Good Place So Far
26 October 2017 | by gacsalySee all my reviews

I found season one of The Good Place mostly pedestrian but my family liked it, so I watched (while playing Boggle against the computer). Season Two (we all agree) is spectacularly better. "Janet and Michael" was the best so far. I seldom review, and generally only review writers. In this case I really want Kate Gersten to KEEP WRITING! The second season episodes have an umami quality missing from the first season (and most TV). The last one second of the episode was subtle, emotionally human (given the characters where all non-human), and wonderfully funny.

I IMDBed the episode to see who wrote it and found Gersten was also involved with several of my favorite "Mozart in the Jungle" episodes (also with umami). Gersten also wrote an eleven minute short "Gwendo & Fiona" which we tried to watch but we were unsuccessful.
