William Wyler's birthplace, Mulhouse, is identified as "a French town that Germany had taken during World War I". Actually, Mulhouse had been incorporated into the German Empire through the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Wyler was thus born in German Mulhausen, which was returned to France in the Treaty of Versailles which ended World War I. See more
