A good crime show ruined by needless non-crime drama
28 December 2017 | by darkavenger77See all my reviews

The original show was The Closer, which dealt with high profile murders in LA. This subsequent show Major Crimes based upon the title should deal with high profile crimes. While it used to, now a sizable portion of each episode is wasted upon secondary character drama. The show needs to be renamed to something like Occasional Crimes Featuring Rusty and His Issues.

The worthwhile crime premise here is an attorney that dealt with clients on an employment issue is murdered, so the employer is a primary suspect. An interesting aspect was two different bullets found at the scene. Other suspects are developed along the way to include a producer along with her ex-husband and son, also a lawyer. Since it is the first one of the now-standard multi-part story arc, we don't figure out whodunnit yet.

As a crime drama, my rating is 7/10. As presented with needless secondary character drama, it's a 2/10. The producers can improve it by making it a crime drama again.
