Will is sent to the hospital in the Hawkins Laboratory but the doctors can not find a reason for his pain. Murray makes many copies of the tape to send to the newspapers. Meanwhile Dustin and Steve find that Dart has escaped from the basement digging a hole out. Bob joins Joyce in the hospital while Dr. Sam Owens shows Hopper the size of the Gate. Will awakes with no memories and Dr. Owens finds that he and other hosts are connected to a hive through a virus. He discusses with the other scientists how Will's brain has been affected by the shadow monster. Steve, Dustin, Lucas and Max use pieces of meat as bait expecting to catch Dart in the junkyard. But the creature comes with other Demogorgons and trap the kids in the bus. Out of the blue, they return to the tunnels to attack the soldiers that had been sent there based on Will's information. Did You Know?

The series is well known to draw influence from Stephen King's books and movies. The song playing over breakfast with Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Murray (Brett Gelman) is "Blue Bayou" by Roy Orbison. This song heavily features in the book/movie Dreamcatcher (2003) by Stephen King, a story about a group of kids who make friends with a supernatural, psychic boy ego helps them fight aliens and work against a government agency, trying to keep it under wraps. The package with the cassette tape that is being mailed to the Chicago Sun-Times has a 20 cent stamp on it. In 1984, that would only be enough postage for a one-ounce letter size envelope. The package is over-sized and more than one ounce. It is insufficient postage and would be returned to sender. See more »
