Siren takes us inside Bristol Cove - a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean. Despite a terrific concept, a striking setting and some pretty nifty special effects here and there, this killer-mermaid show never really comes together. Maybe it's that the acting is so stiff and occasionally downright laughable that it's hard to take anything seriously - in particular, there's a noticeable lack of chemistry among the entire cast, and as a result none of the show's plot developments manage to land much. Then again, maybe it's that the actors just don't have much to work with, given that the show's episodes are poorly written, and as a result they prevent the show's narrative arc to ever build momentum. In any case, the final result is a dreary, humorless and tiresome season that runs out of steam far before its finale.
