Meryl Streep to Find Herself for Steven Soderbergh in HBO Max’s ‘Let Them All Talk’

Meryl Streep to Find Herself for Steven Soderbergh in HBO Max’s ‘Let Them All Talk’
Steven Soderbergh will continue to explore innovative distribution methods for his next project, “Let Them All Talk,” which has just landed at the upcoming HBO Max. The rom-com-sounding project — like “Wine Country” for film snobs? — seems suspiciously out of Soderbergh’s wheelhouse, and maybe that’s why it sounds so refreshing.

“Let Them All Talk” reunites Soderbergh with Meryl Streep, who stars in his 2019 film “The Laundromat,” which Netflix will take to the Venice and Toronto film festivals. “Let Them All Talk” will tell the story of an acclaimed author who takes a journey of self-discovery with old friends, bringing her nephew, played by Lucas Hedges, along for the trip. Hedges soon finds himself romantically involved with a fledgling literary agent, played by Gemma Chan. Candice Bergen and Dianne Wiest also star. The screenplay was penned by short story author and Deborah Eisenberg, who received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2009.

How Streamers are Expanding Interactive Storytelling in a Post-‘Bandersnatch’ World
In this time of peak TV, content providers are trying to capture — and keep — the audience’s attention not only by allowing them to choose what they watch when they want, but also, to a degree, what happens within those stories.

Interactive television may not be a new idea — the 1950s show “Winky Dink and You” allowed children to complete pictures from the program by sticking a piece of vinyl plastic over the television screen and drawing on it — but newer technology allows for greater impact on the storytelling and gives executives the ability to track user engagement.

More than 90% of “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” viewers engaged with the “choose your own adventure” story from the very first option (selecting a breakfast cereal), Netflix says, and that level of participation was the signal the streaming giant needed to “launch a whole new slate” of adult interactive content, according to the platform’s vice president of product,

How Soderbergh Designed His Own Filmmaking Universe – The ‘High Flying Bird’ Interview

How Soderbergh Designed His Own Filmmaking Universe – The ‘High Flying Bird’ Interview
Steven Soderbergh has spent a good portion of his career eliminating anything and anyone standing between the visuals and ideas in his head and his ability to translate them into moving images as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Last week, Soderbergh sat down with IndieWire to discuss his new Netflix film “High Flying Bird” — which explores the “what if” scenarios of basketball players starting their own league — and it was hard to not draw the parallel of, as he himself discusses, a director who has created his very own filmmaking universe. No matter the topic — shooting his next film “The Laundromat,” what’s next for his branching narrative “Mosaic” project, the iPhone, Netflix, his own viewing habits, or David Fincher — Soderbergh reveals a man who has designed his life to be constantly moving toward the next iteration and exploration of himself as a filmmaker.

IndieWire: “They built a game on top of a game.

The Lithuanian filmmaker leaves behind a legacy of film criticism, programming, and lovingly, meticulously crafted cinema, often confronting and splicing through his own biography as a refugee and artist. In April of last year, Mekas was "rediscovering Virginia Woolf," and working on a compilation of 50 years' worth of diaries. ‘High Flying Bird’ Trailer: Steven Soderbergh, Andre Holland & The Writer Of ‘Moonlight’ Teamup For NBA Sports Drama

Thank God Steven Soderbergh decided to step out of retirement, huh? After deciding to step back into the director’s chair —though he arguably never left and dove straight into TV— he’s established his own production and distribution company, Fingerprint Releasing, put together “The Knick,” “Mosaic,” “Logan Lucky,” and “Unsane,” and already has several other projects lined up, including a miniseries about Emin Pasha and the highly anticipated “The Laundromat,” a dramatization of the Panama Papers scandal.

‘Ratched’: Ryan Murphy’s ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ Prequel Casts Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, Corey Stoll, and More
It shouldn’t be shocking that a Ryan Murphy show is able to attract a noteworthy cast, but the TV titan’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”-inspired Netflix series “Ratched” has assembled quite a few surprising stars.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Murphy announced that Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, and Corey Stoll would be the latest performers to join his ever-evolving acting troupe, joining a cast that already includes the previously announced Sarah Paulson, who’ll be playing the title nurse.

This will be the first high-profile role for Nixon following her bid last year to become governor of New York. After starring in Steven Soderbergh’s “Mosaic,” Stone will be returning to TV this year in “The New Pope.” Stoll is coming back to a Netflix series after appearing in the opening season of “House of Cards.”

‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ Spoiler Review: A Course-Correcting Adventure Gives the Illusion of Choice
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch isn’t the first movie to test the concept of a Choose Your Own Adventure-style narrative with diverging pathways on-screen. In late 2017 and early 2018, Steven Soderbergh did it with his murder mystery app and HBO movie, Mosaic. With its availability on the worldwide streaming service of Netflix, however, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch […]

Is Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ Just Another Video Game?

  • Deadline
Netflix is garnering plenty of attention for its ambitious effort to introduce interactivity to the world of narrative filmmaking with today’s debut of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

The interactive film, which was 18 months in the making, follows a young video game designer who is trying to adapt a choose-your-own adventure novel given to him as a child. The premise creates the context for viewers to navigate their way through the story, making choices along the way that result in one of five main endings.

This experiment in branching narratives builds on Netflix’s earlier work creating follow-your-own-adventure type experiences for children’s shows like Puss in Boots. It’s attracting notice because of Netflix’s global reach and disruptive influence over the television industry.

“Because while Netflix already pioneered the art of nonlinear television, the company is bent on doing the same for interactive storytelling,” Wired breathlessly notes. “So grab your remote control.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Review

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Netflix's first adult-oriented interactive film is a mind-bending choose-your-own-adventure story.

Are you ready to press play on Netflix’s worst kept secret? For months, we’ve heard that Netflix and the minds behind Black Mirror were hard at work on a choose-your-own-adventure story as part of the upcoming fifth season. Rumors swirled that the entry would be a standalone film. Intentional or not, the December 28th release date leaked through Netflix press materials. Still nothing was officially confirmed until December 27th, when Netflix told everyone to “relax” and dropped the official trailer for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

Neither a Christmas special nor Black Mirror season 5 premiere, Bandersnatch introduces itself as a Netflix Interactive Film. For an optimal viewing experience, a pre-title sequence video instructs viewers to keep the remote control in hand. At key moments and seemingly mundane ones, two options will appear on screen and

Netflix is Developing a Choose-Your-Own Adventure For Black Mirror and Other Shows

Netflix is going to be trying out a new special format that will allow viewers and fans to choose the direction of the story in a TV show episode or film. It’s going to be a choose-your-own adventure thing and one of them will include an episode of Black Mirror.

I’m a huge fan of Black Mirror and it seems like the perfect series for something like this to be experimented on. According to Bloomberg, Netflix expects the first of these projects to air before the end of this year. The fifth season of Black Mirror is expected to be released in December.

Steven Soderbergh did an incredible job developing a series like this for HBO called Mosaic. I really liked what he did for that, but I’m not exactly sure how Netflix’s version of the choose-your-own adventure will work on these upcoming shows. But, they

Black Mirror Season 5 Will Have an Interactive Episode

Joseph Baxter Oct 1, 2018

Netflix will utilize an experimental choose-your-own-adventure style episode in the upcoming fifth season of Black Mirror.

Black Mirror has always walked on the cutting edge of suspense, brandishing its signature style of technology-centric horror stories. However, Netflix is using the upcoming fifth season of the acclaimed anthology series as part of a planned slate of interactive programming.

Netflix is getting deeper into the interactive television medium –allowing viewers to make decisions that affect the outcome of the programs – with a slate of specials, which are expected to be launched before the year’s end, according to a report by Bloomberg. While details are scarce, the report cites that Black Mirror Season 5 will feature – in a technology experiment apropos to the series – a choose-your-own-adventure style episode, allowing audiences to interact with the course of likely-freaky events unfolding onscreen.

The streaming giant first dabbled with interactive television back in
