Quotes

Quarry: Hey! Who does a fellow like you vote for?
The Broker: I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
Quarry: I wrote someone in.
The Broker: Who?
Quarry: The late, great Otis Redding.
The Broker: Well, yeah, bold choice.
Quarry: Well, you know, I figured he's just as likely to do anything worth a shit as the other two. So, who did you vote for?
The Broker: I ain't voted since Truman.
Quarry: Come on, you're telling me that the last guy that you voted for dropped the atomic bomb?
The Broker: Twice.

Nuoc Chay Da Mon

A technically well made final episode which answers some questions about Mac but yet also with a sense of emptiness about it all.

It starts with a shootout at the fairground which did not bode well for Detective Olsen.

Buddy who knows he will never be free of the Broker also got beaten to a pulp by some gay hustlers. Buddy is certainly in a bad place as he falls on to his mother's arms.

Moses played his role well, he got Ruth to maybe fall in love with him but he figured out that her son has the money. Moses terrified him and took the money from him. He never returned to the diner as his mission was done.

In flashback scenes we see the platoon captain who led Mac and others into the attack on a Vietnamese village and got them to commit atrocious acts of violence on the villagers. Something that has haunted Mac throughout and even led to his stepmother calling him a war criminal. Mac confronted his former captain.

At the end Mac admits to the Broker he misses the combat, he might be going for a job as a pool salesman but the life of crime with the Broker is an acceptable substitute and it pays well.

Only the Broker truly understands Mac, he knows what makes Mac tick. I always suspected the Broker to be a shady CIA guy but the final scenes sees him involved in the heroin trade in Vietnam, the same village where Mac committed the atrocities.
