Borowski and the Return of the Silent Guest
18 June 2019 | by TweekumsSee all my reviews

This episode, listed as the first episode of the second series of 'Inspector Borowski' in the UK, opens with a woman being put in a freezer. She isn't dead though; she emerges on a beach and we soon learn that she had been missing for some time. She is troubled but manages to draw the room she was held in as well as her captor. He bears an uncanny resemblance to serial killer Kai Korthals. As she draws she suddenly collapses, bleeding heavily; she had recently had a baby cut from her! Korthals has the baby but when it gets ill he takes it to the doctors and it is rushed to the hospital. Borowski orders the baby taken to a secure location while he starts the hunt for Korthals. Unfortunately the latter kidnaps somebody close to Borowski hoping to force an exchange. He holds her in a room with no apparent doors or windows.

It must be stated that this episode forces some suspension of disbelief; most notably the way Korthal's secure room is entered; the fact that nobody realised there was anything wrong with the baby's mother before she started bleeding heavily and the coincidence of Borowski standing next to Korthal's van in the hospital car park... despite this I really enjoyed the episode as the level of tension was high enough to keep one's mind off such details. There are quite a few good action scenes including a crash and a couple of fights. Axel Milberg and Sibel Kekilli impress as Borowski and his deputy, Sarah Brandt, and Lars Eidinger is suitably menacing as Korthals. Overall a solid return for Inspector Borowski that fans of previous stories should enjoy.

These comments are based on watching the episode in German with English subtitles.
