Season 3, episode 3, when Harris and Bob Lee go to interview Colby, Harris suggests that they try a "good-cop thing . . . Like, you know, Simon & Simon? Like, more like the younger Simon than the older Simon." The younger Simon to which he is referring was played by Gerald McRaney who plays Red Bama, Sr. In this series.
In the opening credits to the television series, Shooter (2016) you see "SEMPER FI," which is short for "Semper Fidelis." It means "always faithful," or "always loyal." It's the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps., the branch of the military Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillippe) was in.
The trivia items below may give away important plot points.
Even though the basic concept of "Shooter" is the plot of Stephen Hunter's Point of Impact, the series as a whole has borrowed plots from many of Hunters novels in the Swagger series. Example: In the third episode where we learn what happened to Donny, that was actually the third book, which was devoted to Donny and his back story, as told by Swagger. Also, in the book Swagger is married to Julie, who was Donny's wife. They kept it the same in the movie, but changed it to his mom in the series. The series is not based solely on the first book, but books 1-4.
