DVD Review – Acts of Vengeance (2017)

Acts of Vengeance, 2017.

Directed by Isaac Florentine.

Starring Antonio Banderas, Karl Urban, Paz Vega, Cristina Serafini, Lillian Blankenship, Clint Dyer, and Robert Forster.

Synopsis:

A lawyer takes a vow of silence as he goes on the hunt for whoever killed his wife and daughter.

Now that Liam Neeson has stepped back from the revenge/action thriller that was getting a bit repetitive, Antonio Banderas (Desperado/Interview with the Vampire) has stepped up and is seemingly taking the direct-to-dvd market by storm with titles like Security and Bullet Head providing some exciting but ultimately forgettable viewing experiences. And now you can add Acts of Vengeance to that growing catalogue, although the calibre of this one appears – on the surface at least – to be a little higher than your average Asda impulse buy DVD.

Frank Valera (Banderas) is a fast-talking defence lawyer who has a good record in getting guilty scumbags off the hook.

Isaac Florentine & Antonio Banderas team for ‘Acts of Vengeance’

  • Nerdly
If you’re one of the many, many people who bought and enjoyed Security, the Die Hard-esque actioner starring Antonio Banderas – be prepared for even greater things from Banderas’ latest action flick, Acts of Vengeance.

Why? Well this time round the direction comes from Isaac Florentine – he of Savate, Cold Harvest, Us Seals 2, Undisputed 2 and 3, Ninja, Ninja: Shadow of a Tear and Close Range fame…. Yeah, quite the action-orientated CV right? Florentine is one of those action directors whose films I, personally, will watch sight unseen, knowing that I’m in for a fantastic fight-filled time. If you aren’t versed in the ways of Florentine yet I urge you to rectify that Asap!

Not only am I excited to see Banderas and Florentine teaming up, but Acts of Vengeance, which sees a fast-talking lawyer (Banderas) take a vow of silence, not to be broken until he finds out who

From Almodóvar’s parade to the Security of Hollywood: Antonio Banderas’ cinematic journey

Author: Jon Lyus

Antonio Banderas is one of the more recognisable faces (and certainly one of the most recognisable voices) in Hollywood. His presence in front of the camera is tangible, and the variety of roles he enjoys now is testament to a versatility few could have expected of the man who came to Tinsel Town barely speaking a word of English.

He has been a masked legend (twice, one furry – the other not so), played with another kind of mask (horrifcally so – see the final note), appeared opposite the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Spongebob Squarepants. He’s done it all, and now a new film of his arrives on DVD this week.

Security sees the actor as an ex-Special Forces vet taking a job as a security guard. On his first night he rescues a young girl fleeing from a hijacked convey,

DVD Review – Security (2017)

Security, 2017.

Directed by Alain Desrochers.

Starring Antonio Banderas, Ben Kingsley, Liam McIntyre, Chad Lindberg, Katherine de la Rocha, and Gabriella Wright.

Synopsis:

A shopping mall security guard has to protect a female trial witness from a psychopathic criminal and his gang of soldiers looking to stop her testifying against them.

And so the run of direct-to-dvd action movies starring **ahem** older action movie actors continues with Security, a film that stars Antonio Banderas (Desperado/The Expendables 3) and could be neatly summed up as ‘Die Hard in a shopping mall’ and left at that. However, the whole ‘Die Hard in a…’ thing was done with a long time ago and these days not even the Die Hard franchise itself can claim to be anything like those halcyon days of likeable everyday characters taking extraordinary measures to stop the bad guys, so why not delve back into that mindset of late

Antonio Banderas Plays a Mall Cop Who Faces Off with Ben Kingsley in the Trailer For Security

Not since Desperado have we seen Antonio Banderas duel wield pistols in an action movie. But finally, that wait is over. In this new trailer for Security, Banderas plays a mall security officer that gets involved in something well over his pay grade and ends up at war with Sir Ben Kingsley and a slew of his henchmen. Think Die Hard crossed with a serious Paul Blart and a dash of Home Alone.

Antonio Banderas Stars as Mall Security in First Trailer for 'Security'

"Take as many of them out as you can." Arrow Films from the UK has debuted the first official trailer for an action thriller titled Security, which seems like a movie straight out of the 90s. Antonio Banderas stars as a special services veteran who is hired to work as a security guard at a shopping mall. Ben Kingsley also co-stars as a "psychopathic hijacker" who goes after a young girl who was going to testify as a witness in a trial. This sounds like another one of those formulaic action movies where they plug in all the usual tropes, including a young girl being chased by criminals, a former military man forced to do regular security work, and a crazy evil guy after all of them. Also starring Liam McIntyre, Chad Lindberg, Gabriella Wright, and Cung Le. This kind of looks like Die Hard in a shopping mall, but nowhere near as good.

Exclusive: 'Late Late Show' EPs on Celebrating London, Katy Perry's 'Surprising' 'Carpool' and an Adele Cameo
As The Late Late Show With James Corden gears up for its first of three live shows from London on Tuesday, the creative team behind the late-night program is looking to celebrate the city following recent attacks.

“It has been a difficult week to be here,” executive producer Ben Winston admits to Et, sharing that the Late Late Show staff is staying at a hotel just five minutes away from Saturday’s attack on London Bridge and nearby Borough Market. “You wake up on Sunday morning and you go, actually, London is carrying on and the atmosphere here is great, it’s one of resilience of strength.”

“It makes me even happier that we’re here this week,” Winston adds. “When would be a better place to show off the brilliance and character and joy than a week when such tragedy happens? If anything, it’s made us even more excited about being here and more excited

Security and Netflix row dominate Cannes 2017

Security and Netflix row dominate Cannes 2017
The festival was forced to react to anger over the inclusion of Netflix titles, then the Manchester terror attack.

Monday’s night’s devastating attack in Manchester cast a pall over the final throes of a sluggish Cannes market and a festival selection that has lacked exuberance heading into its final stretch.

Flags flew at half-mast on Tuesday and there was a minute’s silence out of respect to the victims of the atrocity.

Swift messages of condolences came from the festival and the local mayor while Pixar cancelled a Cars 3 media event.

Security was never far from the agenda in Cannes. Heavily armed police were a constant presence and Cannes’ heightened state of alert kicked into action on Saturday when an ultimately harmless suspect package resulted in an evacuation of the Debussy during a press screening of Michel Hazanavicius’ Redoubtable.

The sudden death, aged 57, of Busan deputy director Kim Ji-seok at the start of the

Where Are The Missing McU Villains?

  • Cinelinx
Ever since 2008, when Marvel began merging their cinematic franchises in The Incredible Hulk, many comic characters have appeared on-screen. Some have become major players in the McU, some are just minor characters, some have been killed-off and some…have been completely forgotten. Cinelinx looks at four major Marvel villains who were introduced in the McU but have since been totally forgotten.

The Leader: In the comics, the Hulk’s arch-enemy is brainy bad-guy Samuel Sterns, Aka the Leader. Sterns was introduced into the McU in The Incredible Hulk (2008), played by Tim Blake Nelson. In the film, Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) seeks help from oddball scientist Sterns, who proves to have his own agenda. He has synthesized samples of Banner’s irradiated blood, hoping to tap into its “limitless potential”. When last we see Sterns, he gets some of the Banner-Blood into a wound on his forehead. He smiles as his head starts to grow.

Ghost in the Shell Set Photo Shows Scarlett Johansson in Costume

Ghost in the Shell Set Photo Shows Scarlett Johansson in Costume
Back in April, fans got their first look at Scarlett Johansson on the set of Ghost in the Shell, as production began in New Zealand. The image raised quite a bit of controversy, with fans calling out the production for casting Scarlett Johansson as Kusanagi, a character portrayed in the original manga as a Japanese woman. While the controversy has died down somewhat in the months that followed, production still continues, and today we have a new look at the actress in costume, along with director Rupert Sanders.

The photo comes from Production I.G's Twitter, which features the actress and director alongside Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Jamiyama, and Kenji Kawaii. Production I.G. is the production company behind several of the previous Ghost in the Shell adaptations, with Mamoru Oshii directing the animated adaptations Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and Ghost in the Shell 2.0, all of
