Kang uses the term "Sea of Japan". Koreans (both North and South) use the term "East Sea", as they find the term "Sea of Japan" offensive. A hardcore Korean nationalist like Kang would use the term "East Sea" as well.
When everyone is assembled in the Situation Room, General Clegg states that they are now at DEFCON 4. The DEFCON system runs from 5 (peacetime) to 1 (war). General Clegg should have said that they were at DEFCON 2.
Secret Service Director Jacobs says activating the ICBM self-destruction program would make the U.S. vulnerable to nuclear missile attack. Aside from the fact that the self-destruct program does not exist, the ICBM, SLBM, and bomber force only deters such an attack. America does not have a deployed, large-scale missile defense system, and did not pursue one under the ABM Treaty with the USSR.
The message shown when Kang ends a call to the command center is different every time. The first time, it says "P.E.O.C. Terminated Communication", the second time it's "Communication Terminated", and the third time, "Communication Terminated By The White House: P.E.O.C.".
After the two terrorists bomb the two stations with R.P.G.s, terrorists and Secret Service agents fight near the driveway. In an overhead shot of the explosion, as the smoke clears, no one is near the black armored cars.
(at around 1h 27 mins) Banning is seen with what looks like a Motorola Bluetooth. Later, (at around 1h 34 mins), he is seen with what looks like a Plantronics-type Bluetooth with a long-boom. A few minutes later he is back to the Motorola.
After Banning and Connor emerge from between the walls, Banning shoots his pistol to slide lock. He immediately drops the pistol and draws another. In the next shot he is still holding the empty pistol.
During the initial ground fight on the North lawn (31:00) Mike shoots a female sniper in the head. While we see the impact and blood through her hat on her left temple, when her hat falls off the bullet wound is on her right temple.
The intruding Gunship shoots down both planes sent to intercept it. In real life, to avoid incidents like that, one interceptor establishes visual contact with the intruder and flies beside him. The other plane flies behind the intruder to shoot him down if the first interceptor experiences hostile action.
The South Korean prime minister is mainly a ceremonial position, concerned with domestic affairs. Meetings with high-profile foreign heads of state, such as the U.S. president, would be handled by the South Korean president.
It makes no sense for the Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff to have a nuclear missile self-destruct code. The Chain of command for employment of nuclear forces consists The President, the Secretary of Defense, and the Commander of U.S. Strategic Command (stationed at Offutt AFB, Nebraska). Plus, nuclear missiles have no self-destruct capability.
In the film, the Presidential limousine has standard doors and windows, with no armor plating or ballistic glass. In real life, the Presidential limousine is so heavily armored, the Secret Service calls it "The Beast."
Since it's not protocol that no other then the President and his own members are allowed into the "bunker", the North Koreans took a hell of a chance that the president would allow them to do so. And also, that is not the President's decision. That decision is made by the agents and are strict that no one else are allowed access, and overrules the president's order in that matter, since they can not guarantee the safety of the President otherwise.
Even if an AC-130 could be modified with 4 miniguns (2 on each side) to fire upon the F-22s flying side by side, the same AC-130 with the same loadout could not fire directly perpendicular to the AC-130's flight trajectory. To fire the miniguns on civilians and law enforcement, the pilot would have to roll the plane to at least a 45-degree angle, making 2 miniguns inoperable.
All references to NORAD are incorrect. NORAD (the North American Aerospace Defense Command) is a combined command with the mission of detecting and reporting attack on North America. It possesses no nuclear weapons. Strategic Command is responsible for strategic attack, and the ICBMs would be operated by the Air Force Global Strike Command.
When the AC-130 is intercepted by two USAF aircraft right before the attack, they are both shot down after the AC-130 deploys cannon on both flanks. In real life, all AC-130 variants have cannon only on the left side. The aircraft attacks by performing a left-hand pylon turn centered on its target. It's intended as an air-to-ground weapon system, not air-to-air.
As the hooded and chained hostages walk towards the chopper, the sniper Hercules Six tries to figure out if the president is among them. Hostages number two and eleven obviously carry a handgun, yet the sniper does not mention that at all.
After the helicopter carrying terrorists and hostages crashes, Trumble and his team leave Mike to pursue his theory that Kang and the President are still alive. Surely the US military would storm the White House, no matter what theory anyone had.
At about 20 mins, as the South Korean vehicle convoy goes through the White House gate towards the portico drive, the time is 1900 hrs., but the shadows at the base of the trees is symmetrical, rather than extended towards the east side of the tree, as it would be at this time of day.
When the R.P.G is fired into the White House the three stunt men that are flung by the blast are clearly on wires. Not only do they fly through the air in a completely unnatural manner - they're quite obviously on wires - but two of the three men bounce upwards, towards the end of their fall, without ever touching the floor.
When the President's son is playing Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on his Playstation 3, the controller is turned off. When the TV is turned off he hits the power button the light on the controller comes on and you hear the "beep" as the PS3 powers up.
The olive branch and quiver of arrows are constantly in the wrong talons of the eagle for the Presidential Seal. The olive branch is supposed to be in the eagle's right talon while the quiver is supposed to be in the left talon with the eagle's head facing towards the olive branch. This is meant to simulate that America prefers peace, while the quiver in the left talon is meant to simulate that, despite the preference for peace, America is always prepared for war.
The goof items below may give away important plot points.
When Banning discovers the President's son in the walls, the kid is hiding because he knows people are after him. Yet when the glare of a flashlight attached to a gun blinds him in the face, he jumps into that person's arms, even though he has no idea who is holding the gun.
At the beginning of the attack after the jet crashes it makes the Washington Monument crumble down to bricks. Later on, after the White House has been taken down and we see TV teams live reporting about the attack, the Washington Monument can still be seen standing in the Background.
Around 49 mins, Banning tells the secret service director that all agents have been wiped out, and there are no survivors. At that same moment, he logs in to the president's computer to delete all classified files. The background of the computer shows that there are still secret service agents online, like we were shown at around 36 mins before they all died.
During the attack, the Speaker of the House is "officially" placed under Secret Service protection because the President and Vice President are incapacitated. The Speaker of the House already qualifies for such protection.
At approximately 27:14 after the Washington Monument is struck by the attacking aircraft we see the monument collapsing, the scene changes to the ground where we see stones landing everywhere there are several sections of the monument that fall in full sections. This is very unlikely as the Washington Monument is a "FREE STANDING" building there is no mortar or cement holding the stones together. at best sections would have fallen near each other not as solid pieces.
The president orders his staff to reveal their codes to avoid them being tortured because he says he will never reveal his own code. But why wouldn't he reveal his own code to avoid his staff being tortured again in the end?
At around 36 and 49 mins, we are shown and told the number of secret service agents that are still online/alive. It is not possible for them to know this outside of the white house because the terrorists didn't destroy their ear pieces/communication devices. They only killed them.
When talking to the president, the lead terrorist states "It takes 15 minutes for your armed forces to reach the White House, We took it down in 13." However, After they officially confirm it has been taken over, the armed forces arrive in what seems to be moments later,
