Although the boys' holiday is set in Malia, Crete (Greece), the majority of external filming took place in Magaluf, Majorca (Spain)- with any signs mentioning the true location covered up, removed or replaced.
When the boys are in the coach on the way to the hotel there is another group of lads singing a "We Love You Burnley" football chant. When they get to the hotel the man they meet clearly has a Blackburn Rovers tattoo. The two Northern teams have one of the most violent and longest running rivalries of the game.
Jay's dad says to Kevin Sutherland (Neil's father), 'Alright, who's this then, the vicar?'. Kevin, who is played by Alex Macqueen; previously played a vicar on the IT Crowd (2006), episode Return of the Golden Child, and also the local pastor in Hunderby.
In the scene during the drive to the airport where Alan Cooper (Simon's dad) is driving, he mentioned that he went on holiday to Magaluf when he was younger. The hotel scenes and resort scenes were shot in Magaluf.
In a deleted scene, Jay and Neil were seen in a tattoo parlour and decided to get their names tattooed on each other as a reminder of their holiday. When Neil looked at his on a mirror it says: "Jay and Neil Malia" but it actually says "Gay Neil" and Jay refuses to get his arm done. The tattoo artist assures him it is what he asked for, even though it wasn't. Jay assures Neil he knows a guy back home in England who would be able to remove it.
Originally, Mark Donovan; who bullied the Inbetweeners in the TV series, was to have a larger role in the film where he would follow the lads to Malia, but the writers couldn't fit it into the script so the idea was scrapped.
James Lee Hunt, Sam Sheriff and Tom Wells got picked out of over a thousand applicants to play James' friends. Another guy named Chris, was originally picked, but it was seen as a better option to have three friends instead of four. However, he can be seen as an extra in the club scene which James and his friends feature.
In a deleted scene Simon and Will saw Mr. Gilbert drinking at a pub in Malia, but the scene was cut from the film. In another deleted scene, he appears performing a fire act in a bar where Will spots him and shouts to him in a bid to get his attention. However, he does appear at the end on a quad bike with his tie wrapped around his head John Rambo-style.
