Trivia

According to French inheritance laws, children are specifically protected from being excluded from the estate. The part of the estate that is earmarked for descendants is called "the reserve." The reserve for one child is 1/2; two children is 2/3; three children is 3/4. A surviving spouse may be excluded from the will, but will receive 50% of joint assets; the reserve for an unexcluded spouse is 1/4. According to this formula, Malcolm Quince, with a wife (1/4 [3/12]) and two children (2/3 [8/12]), will have only 1/12 of his remaining estate to dispose of freely. See more »

Goofs

When Charles picks up Audrey right after she had a fight with Nick, they're all still in Monaco, but if you pause the movie right when the car pulls away, you will see that that scene was actually shot in Milan: You can see the classic "M" of Milan's metro and on the right is a road sign that says "Area Pedonale" in clear Italian. Quotes

Audrey Spitz: Okay. What's that?
Charles Cavendish: That is the Quince dagger. Chinese steel, jewels from across the Orient. A gift to the family from Marco Polo. Or so the legend says.
Audrey Spitz: God. Nick's grandmother gave us a toaster from Sears. Or so the legend says.

I expected to hate this

Decent plot. Good performances. Jokes that land. Adam Sandler doesn't scream or shout once. Everything works. Very understated.
