Did You Know?

Future plans for more shows were canceled due to the low buyrate, horrible critical reaction, and, worst of all, Jake "The Snake" Roberts' drunken performance, which included him dragging Damien the snake out of his bag and stroking him as if he was masturbating. See more »

At the end of the final match of the night, King Kong Bundy delivers a big splash to Jake "The Snake" Roberts, pins him and gets the win for himself and partner, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. But Roberts wasn't the legal man, his partner, Yokozuna was. See more »

One-Time Only For A Reason
9 June 2019 | by jeremycrimsonfoxSee all my reviews

Regarded as one of the worst profession wrestling pay-per-views of all time, Heroes of Wrestling was a one-time event taking place in the Casino Magic hotel and casino in St. Louis, Mississippi. What was planned to be the first of a series, this would live true to its claim of a one-time mega event, and not in a good way.

Basically, the event features several wrestling legends, like Yokozuna, Iron Sheik, Jake Roberts, Bob Orton, and others from the 1980's and early 1990's. While it was a good idea on paper, the execution was sadly horrible. One of the commentators had to be replaced at the last minute, and the replacement has little to no knowledge of wrestling terminology, leading to some awkward mistakes, like misnaming wrestling moves or getting information about a certain wrestler wrong.

Another big problem is the wrestling matches themselves. Sometimes, they take too long to start, as the wrestlers decides to spend too much time at the start getting the audience fired up or even regrouping outside the ring. Plus, given the wrestlers involved are past their prime, sometimes, the matches can lead to some bad injuries (one infamous injury being Abdullah The Butcher being busted open by One Man Gang during their match). The main event is where the event really falls apart, as Jake Roberts comes to the ring drunk for his bout against Jim Neidhart, and did some inappropriate stuff, causing the two main events to be merged into one tag team match, with King Kong Bundy and Yokozuna joining in, causing the entire thing to get out of control.

So, yeah, the announcer was not kidding when he said this was a one-time mega event. Due to low PPV sales, and the controversies that happened, this would not only cancel future instalments, but also go down in infamy as one of the worst pro wrestling pay-per-views of the 1990's, if not, ever.
