*** 600th review *** Saving me (dvd)
21 June 2013 | by leplatypusSee all my reviews

I would never have believed that I would end my eight years run of reviewing my DVD with such a crap!

Indeed, I bought the show after having watched "Always" at the Cinémathèque in which Holly was an incredible charming, dynamic, tender brunette. Sure, before I paid for the DVDS, I was aware with their covers that she actually turned into a grunge blonde but I didn't expect what it was really about: Honestly, I watched from pilot to episode 6 in season 1 and then jumped directly to this last episode of season 3 as this was so bad.

Grace is an irritating character: loose life, erratic values (as teaching her nephew to kiss, to fire a gun) and with as many siblings as episodes! In addition, Holly hasn't aged well: she looks skinny, anorexic and very masculine….

Next, it's a cop show: as usual and as always, it looks like this is the only and best profession in the world and there aren't really any other occupation worthy of stories: BS ! I could comment the stupidity of a cop driving a Porsche (corruption?) but i focus on the few criminal cases I watched: boring, totally anecdotal and hard to follow as well. We are very far away of the quality of "NYPD Blue" for example and Kim Delaney remains thus the finest example of an incredible woman in the criminal field.

Next, it wants to be a paranormal show as Grace meets her last chance angel. Sure, I wasn't expected "Wings of desire" but maybe with luck, it could have been a sort of "Twin Peaks" with country rednecks: Nada! this religious side is terribly scripted: The angel who looks like a hobo has nothing to say, does nothing spiritual except flapping his wings, making teleportation or doing errands. Do you think they speak faith, evil, heaven or hell? Absolutely not and I don't comment the fact that all started with Grace killing accidentally on a road a criminal who was sleeping in a death-row cell!

The production is totally hideous: As it's expected to happen in OKC, every outdoor scene is strongly colorized in a gold light! The sets are totally poor and a terrible mess.

The last episode doesn't change anything: just a ridiculous babble about a fight of good versus evil, no action, no tension, no drama, no special effects. I really don't grasp what has been the evolution of the show during the 40 episodes I skipped as Grace is exactly like as I left her.

So, this show is a big void, maybe my biggest disappointment in my collection, that has nothing for it except that it didn't save my savings! At least, this show taught me 2 good darn lessons:

1) never buy a show on impulse

2) never buy a show without having watched at least 1 episode

Hourra ! It's done at least !! No more episodes to watch of this painful show that sticks really at the bottom after a useless, endless 3rd season !

The first thing I noticed was Holly's plastic surgery : her old face is now so stretched that she looks like Rourke or all the other Frankenstein ladies we all see now!

No cases were interesting this year except maybe the ones about the Jewish community (E5). Indeed we have a lot of stupid episodes with « narcissist » cases involving relatives (E3, E6, E13).

For the spiritual touch, we have a bad angels feud (E4) or an unbelievable non episode made of previous scenes (E15). There is sudden burst with the miracle salvation jump and the arrival at last (!) of what seems to be the evil (E11) but everything quickly falls asleep : this new angelic friendship with a fragile black (?) is as much boring as the first ! E17 & E18 offer a welcome new direction but i totally disagree that the tragedy was an accident as Grace was clearly culprit of reckless driving !!! I realize now that the final is just totally stupid because if her turning to god means to kill even the devil, it's contradictory !

And for sure, there is terrible lack of OK locations !

The best episode of this year is the follow-up of 1st season best with the final moment of Geepaw (E12): his death at the hospice is terribly similar to my late grandmother !

At the end, this show has only material for only one good season as nothing in the scripts justify 50 episodes !
