Dr Martin Ellingham and Pauline are surprised by the number of patients coming to see him on the last day before his Surgery closes and he moves to London.
It's Martin's last day in Portwenn and the surgery is packed. Edith turns up, expecting an apology from Martin for walking out on her but of course does not get one and Joan again rebukes him for distancing himself from his child. As he is about to leave, Tasha, a school-teacher friend of Louisa, collapses. She has been inhaling fumes from an illegal bio-fuel used by her cab driver husband Tommy. She is all right but Tommy, who is driving Louisa to hospital for the birth, also collapses at the wheel and crashes the car. Martin races to save him and to help deliver the baby. It's a boy, and the whole of Portwenn, who have been listening via Pauline's amplified mobile phone, cheer Martin and Louisa and their new offspring.
As word has gotten around that it's Marin's last day in Portwenn, the waiting room is packed well before the surgery is open. Also waiting for him is Edith Montgomery who says he obviously has problems with intimacy but that she is still looking forward to seeing him in London. Among his patients that day is Tommy the taxi driver but it is only when his wife collapses on the dock does Martin realize what they are suffering from. When he learns Louisa is in Tommy's taxi, he races after her. When Tommy loses consciousness and crashes his car, Louisa is unhurt but goes into labor.
Dr. Martin Ellingham and Pauline are surprised by the number of patients coming to see him on the last day before his Surgery closes and he moves to London, but after a series of mishaps, including the taxi driver crashing his car with Louisa inside it, Louisa goes into labour and the Doc is facing a dilemma; should he move away or stick around to support Louisa and their newborn child?
