  • At the beginning of the game it is clearly stated that this is set 5 years after the events of Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare, which was set in 2011. So, Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 is set in 2016. Edit (Coming Soon)

  • The mission called "No Russian", involves you and a gang of terrorists killing innocent people in an airport. This mission can be skipped by pausing the game and selecting "Skip Mission". It is also warned about as soon as you start up Modern Warfare 2 for the first time, and can be skipped from there. It is also possible to walk through the airport without ever firing your weapon.

For the German and Japanese Version the mission was slightly edited. As soon as you start shooting the civilians the game aborts. The Russian edition of the game completely omitted the mission. Edit (Coming Soon)

  • Shepherd betrays the 141 because the data they secure for him from the estate is a paper trail that shows he was responsible for the entire scenario. Killing them all off ties up loose ends that might let this info out. With them out of the way, he now looks like a war hero and his Shadow Company have a "blank check" that means they have unlimited funds to most likely fight terrorism. What prompted Shepherd to do what he did has its roots in the events of Call of Duty 4, where 30,000 of Shepherd's men are killed in a nuclear explosion in the Middle East. Shepherd felt betrayed by what he viewed as the apathy of the international community in the wake of the incident and believed that provoking a war with Russia would increase America's standing in the world.
