‘Hobbs And Shaw’ Director David Leitch Inks First Look Deal With Universal

  • Deadline
Universal has signed a first look production deal with Hobbs And Shaw helmer David Leitch and his 87th North Production banner. The Fast & Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham opens on Aug. 2 and is, natch, expected to be one the linchpin titles at the summer box office.

Together with his producer partner Kelly McCormick at 87th North, Leitch is already producing the title story in Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah’s New York Times bestseller Friday Black, which Uni optioned the rights to back in February as exclusively reported by Deadline. Adjei-Brenyah is adapting the script for the film and executive produce. No director has been set yet. 87th North also has Ilya Naishuller’s action thriller Nobody set up at Uni with Bob Odenkirk. Leitch delivered the $785M-plus global grossing sequel Deadpool 2 for Fox last summer, and two years ago directed Atomic Blonde for Focus Features.

While this isn’t going to satisfy my need for a sequel to 2013’s wildly entertaining Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, I think we can all be happy that there’s going to be another movie that tackles this witchy fairy tale. Orion Pictures has confirmed that they will be releasing their horror adaptation of the Brothers […] The post Venture Into the Woods Once More in Gretel And Hansel appeared first on Dread Central.

Gretel and Hansel is officially set to hit theaters on January 31st, 2020. Orion Pictures' dark reimagined version of Hansel and Gretel, the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, has been in development for quite some time now. The movie was a box office success and a sequel, along with a TV series, were talked about. However nothing ever got past the development phase.

Now, Orion is moving forward with Gretel and Hansel starring It's Sophia Lillis, Sammy Leakey, Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact), Jessica De Gouw (Arrow), and Charles Babalola (Black Mirror). Directors Joe Carnahan and Alex Aja have previously been attached to the film, but it looks like Leitch may end up being the one to get it made. Here’s the story summary:

In this horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore set in modern-day Hong Kong, ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: she's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her.

Paramount Sets First Look Deal With Adam McKay & Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez & Gloria Sanchez Labels

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has set Gary Sanchez Productions and sister label Gloria Sanchez into a new three-year first look feature deal. Gary Sanchez Productions is led by principals Will Ferrell and Adam McKay with producer Jessica Elbaum heading Gloria Sanchez.

This comes as Paramount percolates the Demetri Martin scripted Will, and the English language remake of the German comedy Toni Erdmann, with Lisa Cholodenko to direct a vehicle for Kristen Wiig.

Ferrell and McKay once had a deal under the prior regime at Paramount but left the studio. Bringing them back is a coup for chairman Jim Gianopulos and Paramount Motion Picture Group president Wyck Godfrey. Gary Sanchez Productions films have grossed almost $1 billion worldwide for Paramount. That includes Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters ($226M), Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues ($173M), the Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg Daddy’s Home ($242M) and Daddy’s Home 2 ($180M) and The Big Short, the

‘Hansel’ to get a sequel, ‘Thrones’ gets a 4th?; ‘Divergent’ adds more cast & ABC to venture to ‘Wonderland’

Despite a paltry $54 million domestic gross, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters took in over a $150 million internationally. This was enough for Paramount Pictures to begin work on a sequel.

While HBO has made no comment on the future of their hit series Game of Thrones, cast members have made mention that the series will return for a fourth season. It makes sense, considering the upcoming third season only covers about half of Storm of Swords. Also word has come that the premium cable channel is considering a prequel series that details the struggle for the Iron Throne and is based on a series of novellas set 100 years before the events of the show and starring two characters named Dunk and Egg.

Kate Winslet has joined the cast of Divergent, the Neil Burger-directed film based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling young adult about a futuristic world where people are

Jack the Giant Slayer – review

Another fairytale reboot, but director Bryan Singer gives this one a bit of entertaining fee-fi-fo-fum

The fairytale reboot is one of Hollywood's newest and most unwelcome inventions: children's tales ramped up and complicated with added PG action and lite sexiness, and mostly with their charm and psychological insight stripped out. The recent Hansel and Gretel reimagining was about as pleasurable as adult chicken pox. But I have to admit that against the odds, this new version of the panto fave Jack and the Beanstalk is watchable in a ridiculous way, and director Bryan Singer supplies quite a bit of entertainment bang for your buck.

Nicholas Hoult is Jack, now a young-adult hottie rather than a mere lad, and what he has to sell is a horse, rather than an undignified cow. The five beans he gets create a beanstalk that leads to a mysterious land of giants. The sinister and

Extended clips and featurette from G.I. Joe: Retaliation have lots of ninja action...and panties?

The four-minute long ninja fight sequence  from G.I. Joe: Retalitaion that was previewed before Hansel And Gretel is now online, showcasing a brawl between fan favorites Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Jinx, as well as a bunch of high-flying red ninjas.  We've seen bits and pieces of this sequence thus far and it's still just a piece of the whole as presented here, but it should give you a good sense for the overall flow of the film.  It looks pretty finished to me, complete with Henry...

Hansel & Gretel sequel announced as film passes $205m worldwide

It's been said that the fairy tale film trend is well past its 'happy ever after' stage, with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Jack the Giant Slayer not exactly casting a spectacular spell on critics or the box office.

However, Jack has yet to open in many European territories (it launches in the UK this weekend, March 22) or in Japan and latin America, so there's chance yet for it to improve on its $91 million earnings and recoup more of that whopping $195 million production cost.

Hansel and Gretel has found the magic ingredient to success with its modest $50 million budget (which it has crucially exceeded in North American ticket sales) and has now taken just over $205 million worldwide.

You may think there can't be much more mileage in this particular story of Grimm-with-guns-and-gore, but the financial takings have been enough to convince Paramount Pictures, MGM and MTV Films to announce a witch-hunting sequel.

'Hansel and Gretel' go back to witch hunting

'Hansel and Gretel' go back to witch hunting
EW has confirmed that Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, the twist on the classic fairy tale, is getting a sequel. The movie, which chronicles Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel’s (Gemma Arterton) journey from innocent victims of a candy house to vengeful witch hunters, grossed $200 million globally. Although its success was met mostly overseas (the movie only earned about $50 million domestically), enthusiasm for the concept and the film itself was enough to give producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick a reason to give the film another installment.

Paramount Prepping ‘Witch Hunters’ Sequel the Entire World Wanted

If you want a sure sign of what the global market looks like, Hollywood has got you covered. Even though Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters only earned $55m domestically, the movie scored over $150m internationally, and those numbers are prompting Paramount and MGM to partner on a potential sequel. According to Variety, the studios want a second helping of the Tommy Wirkola-directed film, but it’s unclear as to whether they’ll be able to get Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner back. Pure gut-reaction guess? The pair won’t be back, and it won’t matter. They’ll made Hansel and Gretel 2: Witchier with two new faces, trade off the name recognition of the first to make back diminished returns and leave Terry Gilliam to scratch his head over what happened with The Brothers Grimm.

Paramount moving ahead with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters Sequel

Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters sailed passed the $200m. at the international box office over the weekend. And coming off the back of its success, Paramount have officially announced that a sequel is in the works.

Deadline report that the film’s international box office numbers have been a key to the decision to move on with a sequel.

Released back in January in the Us, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters opened in the top spot at the box office in the States. Its performance has been moderate-to-successful in the Us, settling at just over $54m.

The film has taken more than three quarters of its revenue abroad, however, and the international figures have clearly impressed the studio enough to move ahead with the follow-up.

As of yet, it’s not known whether Wirkola will be back on board for the second film, after writing

'Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters' Getting A Sequel

'Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters' Getting A Sequel
"Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" will be fighting the good fight for another day. A sequel for the movie is being developed, and the announcement comes less than two months after the Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner-starring film hit theaters.

Deadline has the news, and credits the movie's global box office success as a main reason that a follow up is being made. MGM and Paramount have reportedly confirmed that a sequel is being worked on, with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn expected to return as producers.

But what about the mains stars, or director Tommy Wirkola? The Deadline article does not mention whether they are contracted to return for another movie. The two talented leads definitely helped make the movie, and it is hard to picture a sequel working quite as well without the same Hansel and Gretel.

Also, will the duo of
