During his space walk Alexey Leonov used an inflatable airlock (the first spacecraft to use such a device) because the Voskhod spacecraft used air to cool it's instruments. A cabin decompression would quickly lead to an overheat and failure of the spacecraft with a likely loss of crew. Gemini used liquid cooling and regularly decompressed the cabin for spacewalks.
