Storyline

After Alex and Hunt bug Mackintosh's office for evidence of his corruption they are visited by Jackie Queen, Hunt's journalist old flame who has come from Manchester to investigate the disappearance of teenage runaways, including her niece Rachel. A stake-out at the coach station leads to businessman Ralph Jarvis, a friend of Mackintosh, who denies everything. However Rachel appears and offers herself as bait, enabling the team to interrupt one of Jarvis's sex parties, also arresting him for another young girl's murder which Mackintosh covered up. A shoot-out between the two villains prevents Hunt's transfer to Devon but one's dying word "Rose" is a mystery which Alex believes is intended for her. Written by don @ minifie-1

Trivia

When in Jarvis (John Bowe)' country house, Chris (Marshall Lancaster) says, "It's just like Southfork", referencing the name of the ranch home of the Ewing family in US soap opera Dallas (1978) (1978-1991). When entering the house later in the episode Chris says "It's like Scooby Doo", and Ray (Dean Andrews) remarks "Ha ha ha you pesky kids", referring to the famous TV cartoon dog who first appeared in Hanna Barbera's Scooby Doo, Where Are You! (1969) in 1969. See more »

The little patter of tiny feet and Rowland the rat
9 August 2015 | by Sleepin_DragonSee all my reviews

A journalist turns up who Gene had an encounter with previously, she comes with his coat and seemingly his baby. It seems like Gene is being moved on to Plymouth. Alex gets a bizarre message from the unknown man, the voice is particularly familiar. The instant dislike between the Journalist and Alex is good fun, both are vying for Gene's attention. Corruption is abundant, and Roger Allam appears to be the Spider at the centre of the web. The episode seems to be building up to taking down Allam. There is humour in this episode, but there's more menace in this episode, there's a darker undertone. We had Morph last week, this week we get another 80s legend, Rowand the Rat, Molly's there as a Ratfan. This is an outstanding episode, best so far of Series 2.
