Sex & Nudity

  • A teenage/young adult couple is seen kissing a few times and shown to live together and share a bed.
  • A woman unzips a man's trousers and it's implied she is about to perform oral sex; however she is stopped by him.
  • A man runs naked into the sea; only his backside is seen.
  • A woman breastfeeds a baby; her breast is briefly seen.
  • A young girl and later a woman are seen in the bath, but there is no nudity other than legs and shoulders.
  • A young boy is standing naked in a bath and his buttocks and bare back are seen.
  • A man puts his hand up a woman's skirt.
  • A man and a woman have sex; no nudity is shown but the movements, moaning, and position are obvious.

Violence & Gore

  • A cesarean takes place; the scalpel is seen in contact with the woman's stomach, but then the scene ends.
  • A man is hit by a van; this isn't seen: The van can be heard hitting the man, and then his body is seen on the floor (little blood is seen).
  • A dead snail is kept in a matchbox.
  • The cloned boy, as a young man, exhibits anger and mild violence during the latter portion of the film. He is seen to bang a salt shaker repeatedly against the table and kick over a chair. In a later scene, he grabs his mother at the back of the throat and throws her onto her bed, and later shouts in her face.
  • In a sex scene between a man and a woman, blood is seen on her hand. It is implied that he took her virginity.

  • A few mentions of f**k.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Hardly anything; a young man drinks a beer.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The moment at which a man is hit by a car can be of some shock as it's unexpected.
  • The film as a whole deals with a very sensitive and disturbing topic that some viewers may find upsetting and difficult to watch; it questions what is morally right and wrong. The main storyline is based on the idea of cloning, particularly the cloning of humans and the cloning of deceased persons; this a controversial topic that questions morals.
  • A young boy shouts at his mother.
  • The aftermath of a man dying is seen as very emotional by the characters.
  • Clones are referred to as 'copies' that 'smell like window cleaner', a parallel to racial discrimination that might upset some viewers. A particular scene, where the boy spends his birthday alone with his mother because the local mothers refuse to allow their children to his birthday party, after discovering that he is a clone, may be upsetting to some viewers.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • In earlier in the movie Natalia Tena wear a white tops through her tops nipple is visible.
  • Eva Green breast feeding a baby that time her nipple and breast briefly show.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is implied sexual tension between the mother and the clone of her deceased partner, whom she has given birth to and raised as her child. For example, in a scene where the mother and boy are playing on the beach, the child wrestles the mother to the ground and lands on top of her, after which they gaze into each others' eyes. It is implied that he prefers to be around her than to be with his own friends. As an adult the boy brings home a girlfriend and the mother is seen to behave jealously. The sex scene at the end of the film is between the mother and the adult child. This could be upsetting to viewers as it could be seen as incestuous; the male character shares no genetic link with the woman, but as she raised him, she could be viewed as his mother.
  • Additionally, the sex scene at the end is initiated by the male character and it is not clear whether the sex is consensual. The woman's face appears upset throughout the act, and at the beginning of the act she appears to attempt to push his hand away from her pelvic area (unseen, below a blanket), before relenting and moving her hand away. After the act, the woman sheds a tear, however her emotions are unclear as she is wearing a neutral expression, with possibly a hint of a smile. As it is unclear whether the sex in consensual, this scene could be upsetting for some viewers.
