In Montana, a member of a local militia, Frances Goering, is identified as a sadistic serial killer. He then commits suicide by blowing himself up, taking a cop with him. Goering's M.O. was kidnapping young women, torturing them for a few days and then killing them. By the time of his death he had killed 3 and held another captive. The BAU is called in to locate the survivor and finds her freshly killed, meaning Goering had an accomplice who now has literally taken his identity...

At the end Agent Rossi says that all anyone remembers about Ruby Ridge is that the government shot a mother holding her baby. Actually a lot of people remember more, like the fact the first person killed was the Weaver's 14 year old son. Also remembered is the fact that all the charges brought by the federal government against Randy Weaver in the aftermath were dropped except for the original failure to appear, and a charge stemming from his being in possession of firearms in violation of a bail condition.
