It was unanimous decision by the band to have a woman being crucified in the video. Chris Cornell said: "As a visual, it's powerful and it's also challenging to people, because women basically have been persecuted since before recorded history, and it would almost make more sense than seeing a man on it." Guitarist Kim Thayil said that the band specifically wanted a woman of color to be on the cross - they didn't want a white guy to be on the cross. "We ended up using a woman who I think was part East Indian, but you couldn't really tell. It would have been better if she was more Indian or African-American. We wanted representation with minorities in our videos - and girls who weren't dancing on the hood of a car. It was always an uphill battle for some reason", Thayil said. See more
