HBO Max Orders Danai Gurira’s ‘Americanah’ as a Limited Series Starring Lupita Nyong’o

“Americanah” is finally coming to life — as a limited series. Friday afternoon HBO Max announced a straight-to-series order for a 10-episode adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, with Danai Gurira attached to write the pilot and serve as showrunner. Lupita Nyong’o, who starred with Gurira in “Black Panther,” will play the lead, Ifemelu.

“Through ‘Americanah,’ Chimamanda brought the African female voice into mainstream consciousness in an unprecedented way,” Gurira said in a statement. “It is intellectually incisive, indicting, yet full of humor, and riddled with humanity. She makes unheard voices familiar, universal and yet palpably specific. I am honored to bring her incredible novel to life on the screen. I’m thrilled to collaborate once again with Lupita, who brings her astounding ability as a performer and producer shepherding this project, along with HBO Max’s unbridled enthusiasm to bring this groundbreaking narrative to the TV audience.”

David Simon’s Vision of America

If you were paying attention to HBO during the pay-cable giant’s breakthrough stretch at the turn of the century, it became a running gag that all the best shows came from a David. There was of course David Chase with The Sopranos, and David Milch with Deadwood. And in between, there was David Simon with The Wire. If not for its Seinfeld pedigree, one could be forgiven for assuming Curb Your Enthusiasm only got on the air because its creator and star was named Larry David.

‘It Chapter Two’ Star James Ransone Almost Quit Hollywood Before His Big Studio Breakout
James Ransone isn’t taking it for granted. He’s not taking “It” for granted, either. While the long-time television actor and indie mainstay has been working in Hollywood for nearly two decades, his latest role in Andy Muschietti’s much-hyped “It Chapter Two” is his biggest gig yet. It almost didn’t happen, and not just because of good old-fashioned industry drama or scheduling issues, but because the Indie Spirit winner nearly left the business long before he could dig into a breakout 20 years in the making.

“I’ve just never been in a pop culture thing like this, I’ve never had a moment like this,” Ransone said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “I didn’t know this thing was as big as it was, I had no idea it was going to be as massive as it was. It feels like some like hand of God,

A New Clip from The Banana Splits Movie

  • Comicmix
There’s a certain generation that will recognize the names Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snorky. Together, they are the Banana Splits, a pop band aimed at children, headliners of The Banana Splits Animation Hour which ran on NBC Saturday mornings from September 7, 1968, to September 5, 1970. The arrived at a time when children’s television was welcoming more live-action production.

Hanna-Barbera, which ruled Saturday morning animation during the 1960s, asked Sid and Marty Kroft to design the band which would be men inside costumes, with celebrated voice actors lip-synching original saccharine tunes. So successful was this that the Krofts created their own show, H.R. Puffenstuff.

As nostalgia continues to fuel reboots and remakes, here comes a fresh one from Warner Home Entertainment.

The Banana Splits Movie arrives on digital streaming Tuesday, the 13th with a disc debut on August 27. The film offers a new take on the classic characters. The film

It: Chapter 2 Massive Runtime Revealed and Stephen King Shares His Thoughts on The Film

Image: Total Film/GamesRadar

It: Chapter 2 director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel has a runtime of two hours and 45 minutes! That’s a long-ass movie and I can’t wait to watch it! While talking to Digital Spy, Muschietti explained:

“At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s four hours long, you realize that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact. You cannot deliver a 4-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable – no matter what they see – but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good.”

The director when on to say that,

Emmy spotlight: Hulu’s ‘Catch-22’ is a searing satire on the futility and insanity of war

“Catch-22” is Hulu’s epic new adaptation of the classic Joseph Heller novel about Captain John Yossarian, a young Us Army bombardier (Christopher Abbott) stationed in Italy during World War II, who is desperate to fulfil his seemingly interminable flight mission quota, so he can be discharged and finally return home.

The show opens on Yossarian wandering a busy military tarmac wearing nothing but a pair of boots. He looks defeated and unhinged as he eventually screams hysterically while his army buddies look on in the distance. We are then transported back to the beginning to explain how he went from cocky wide-eyed innocence to broken, jaded and traumatized, suffering setback after setback until he snaps. This is a devastating but often very funny satire about sanity, mortality and the futility of war, as young and eager bombardiers are sent up into the sky in cramped warplanes to drop bombs on the enemy,
