Serendipity is in NBC’s future — as in a small-screen adaptation of the 2001 rom-com that starred John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

Our sister site Variety reports that the Peacock network has given a script commitment to a series inspired by the movie, in which Cusack and Beckinsale played a couple seemingly fated to be together, though they certainly put that notion to the test.

Michael Shannon to Play Lakers Owner Jerry Buss in HBO Pilot About Dominant ’80s Team
Boardwalk Empire” breakout Michael Shannon has been cast to play former Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss on HBO’s now-untitled pilot about the iconic 1980s team.

Shannon joins Jason Clarke, who was previously announced for the key Jerry West role, in the pilot from Adam McKay.

The prospective hour-long series is a true story based on Jeff Pearlman’s non-fiction book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.” The pilot had previously been referred to by HBO as “Showtime,” the team’s nickname for that dominant decade, but it is now being called “The Untitled Showtime Lakers Project.”

Miguel Sapochnik could get a bookend Emmy for directing yet another ‘Game of Thrones’ battle

Miguel Sapochnik could get a bookend Emmy for directing yet another ‘Game of Thrones’ battle
After skipping the seventh season, director Miguel Sapochnik returned to “Game of Thrones” for the eighth and final season to direct the third and fifth episodes, “The Long Night” and “The Bells,” respectively. With the former serving as his submission, he received a second Best Drama Directing Emmy nomination and could now win his second statuette for bringing yet another battle-heavy “Thrones” episode to life.

He won his first Emmy in 2016 for his monumental directorial achievement in the Season 6 outing “Battle of the Bastards.” Considering that the one-hour episode brought about not one but two long-awaited battles, and took an estimated 25 days to film, it’s not surprising that Sapochnik ended up snagging the gold. The directors’ branch often gravitates towards the biggest, splashiest achievement. And if that’s anything to go by, Sapochnik may need to get his Emmy speech ready once again.

Michael K. Williams on How 1980s New York Influenced His Fashion Sense

  • Variety
Michael K. Williams on How 1980s New York Influenced His Fashion Sense
In the late 1980s, “When They See Us” star Michael Kenneth Williams wore the dark puffy jackets, designer jeans and sneakers that were popular in his community. “But when ‘wilding’ started going on in New York City, that was the attire for them as well,” says Williams, who changed the way he dressed out of fear in the wake of the Central Park jogger case. Now, the four-time Emmy nominee goes for clean, classic clothes with “a little pop.” “I like to bring a little bit of my personality and my flair to the tradition.”

2014

Being nominated for a second time with the SAG Award-winning ensemble of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” — as well as with the cast of 2013 film “12 Years a Slave” — left Williams with the stressful decision of with which production to sit. “I found myself bouncing from table to table,” he recalls. He got his navy Ralph Lauren

Boardwalk Empire: 10 Storylines That Were Never Resolved

HBO seems to have a never-ending list of television shows that set a new bar for what can be achieved. They seem to be constantly offering up new and unique material for their audience, and it's rare to find an HBO show that doesn't set the standard for all other shows on air.

Related: Justified: 10 Storylines That Were Never Resolved

One of the channel's more unique offerings is its period crime drama, Boardwalk Empire. The series focuses on Nucky Thompson, the big cheese crime boss of Atlantic City during the Prohibition era. Although Nucky is the lead character, the cast of characters and assortment of storylines is vast, taking the audience all over the United States and spanning over a decade. It's not a huge shock that, while Boardwalk Empire was an impressive television achievement, a few storylines were never properly resolved.

Trailer for Dwayne Johnson's Ballers Season 5 - "To The Victor Go The Spoils"

HBO has released a new trailer for the fifth season Dwayne Johnson’s Ballers, and it teases what’s in store for Johnson’s character Spencer Strasmore as he works to stay at the top of his game.

The series explores “the glamorous and often cutthroat world of pro football through a group of past and present players striving to stay in the game.” Johnson plays an ex-superstar “who has reinvented himself as a financial manager for today’s players.”

Ballers is a solid show that I’ve enjoyed watching, and I’m not even really into sports! It’s just good storytelling and interesting characters. The show was created by Stephen Levinson (Boardwalk Empire), and the cast also includes Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon, London Brown, Arielle Kebbel, Dulé Hill, Richard Schiff, and Andy Garcia.

Ballers Season 5 is scheduled to premiere on August 25th.

The Lord Of The Rings TV Show May Debut With A 20-Episode Season

Even from the word ‘go,’ we knew Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV show was going to be a Herculean effort.

This is, after all, a TV series adapting the renowned work of J.R.R. Tolkien, so it should come as no surprise that the first season may span 20-episodes in length. Or so says Tolkien scholar Tom Shippey, who has been tapped as a consultant for Amazon’s fantasy-fuelled series.

During a recent interview with Deutsche Tolkein (h/t Geek Tyrant), Shippey suggested that The Lord of the Rings‘ inaugural season may well boast 20 episodes in total – a colossal number for any streaming service – while also offering up one or two pertinent details about where the show is headed. This is a transcript from Deutsche Tolkein, so you’ll have to excuse the broken English.

Amazon has a relatively free hand when it comes to adding something […] very few
