In 1974, 148 tornadoes hit 13 states causing millions of Dollars of damage injuring 5500 people and killing 330. At the time the weather service couldn't give precise warnings where the tornadoes would strike.

The reenactment of the post tornado stricken landscape was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana utilizing the natural disaster left over from hurricane Katrina in what is locally referred to as "New Orleans East". The neighborhoods in which filming took place was regularly patrolled by the National Guard in humvees as the area was without power and some residents were attempting to rebuild only to be robbed as they attempted to piece back their lives. Filming was during the summer of 2006. See more
