At a swanky society party that Donald needs to attend to conduct some interviews for the magazine, Ann has an inauspicious introduction to a kindly old man named Andrew Washington when he accidentally spills his shrimp cocktail plus sauce on Ann's new white crepe dress. Ann refuses his offer to pay for a new dress. It isn't until later that Ann learns from Donald that Mr. Washington is one of the wealthiest men in the country. She learns just how kind and how wealthy he is when in lieu of replacing the dress, he sends her a bracelet, which she later learns contains real diamonds and is worth $4,500. Very good. Laugh out loud throughout. Elaborate production and 2 giant guest stars.

Synopsis: An elderly gentleman that happens to be one of the 10 richest people in the country spills shrimp sauce on Ann's new dress. From then on he tries to ply her with expensive gifts to compensate.

Larry-view: You can see that they put more effort into this one from the very start. The opening scene features a crowded cocktail party with many extras floating about. Right there we've taken a step upwards. Then a big guest star (Cecil Kellaway) wanders into the frame, another good indicator. Then Ann cracks a couple of funny jokes, a running gag gets started, and the script makes an in-joke reference, and hey, we're already better than all but a handful of the other episodes and we're only 4 minutes into the show. I stopped the show right here and told my wife that I could already tell this was going to be a good one. The script continues sparkling along, and suddenly who shows up but Jesse White (of Maytag repairman fame), the sleazy agent Ann hired in "just spell the name right." He brings along another floozy guest star, and wow! What happened here? It's like the title character financed this episode. Mr. Marie gets a funny bit, there's lots of bits of funny business, and the fashion show is in full force. The old guy is charming, subtly hitting on Ann but never going over into lecher territory. Skillful writing keeps the story moving along whilst keeping the old guy looking like a sweet, naive, friendly, likable gentleman. Good stuff.
