BBC shows dominate festive ratings

EastEnders is viewers' choice on Christmas Day as Coronation Street gives ITV only top 10 place

The BBC delivered nine of the top 10 shows in the Christmas Day ratings, after a mixed batch of festive fare saw millions fewer tune in to watch festive specials such as Doctor Who, featuring the first half of David Tennant's last outing as the 10th Time Lord, and Strictly Come Dancing.

The 10.9 million viewers who watched EastEnders on BBC1 proved to be the largest audience of the day, with a 45.9% viewer share. However, that was significantly less than the 14.3 million who watched the top-rated Wallace & Gromit adventure last year.

Doctor Who – featuring a cast including John Simm and Catherine Tate – was the third most popular show, with an audience of 10 million. Again, this was down on the 11.7 million who watched the show last year, and the 12.2 million who watched 2007's Christmas special, featuring Kylie Minogue

Comedian Sorry For Knightley Sex Joke
Actress Keira Knightley has received an apology from British comedian James Corden after he boasted of a three-day sex marathon with the Atonement star.

Corden, who co-writes and stars in U.K. TV comedy Gavin + Stacey, made the remark after announcing Knightley had won the Best Actress Award at The Sony Ericsson Empire Awards in March.

Introducing Knightley's previously-recorded acceptance speech, he told the audience at the London ceremony he had recently indulged in repeated sessions of "sensual lovemaking" and "solid shagging (sex)" with the star.

But Corden is now attempting to make amends for the joke - after Knightley ignored him at a recent showbiz party.

He says, "Truly, I thought about doing that (the sex joke) 20 seconds before I went up (to present the award). On my life, it just came out.

"It really was a joke. I would like to know she did know that. I think she's great."

Rob Brydon: 'No better time to be Welsh'

Comedian Rob Brydon has claimed that "there's never been a better time to be Welsh". Speaking at the Hay Festival in Powys, Brydon said the success of Welsh musicians and TV programmes would prove to Anne Robinson, who famously derided the nation, what the country was capable of. He said: "There's never been a better time to be Welsh - there's Duffy, Gavin & Stacey, Torchwood, Doctor Who. I'd say that would wipe the smile off her face - but that would require surgery."
