Storyline

A fever-based illness runs through Studio 60, putting the rehearsals and show itself in jeopardy. Matt brings in former co-writer Andy, a deadpan friend who has the magic touch to whip Lucy and Darius into productivity. Harriet will be honored at a banquet, and struggles to tell a simple joke. Jordan finally grants an interview, but is all too honest; Jack stops just short of formally firing her. She announces her pregnancy by fainting into Danny's arms. Howie Mandel is guest host; we finally get to see one full sketch when Danny comes on stage to parody "Deal or No Deal" in the monologue. The cast loosen up backstage, and even the partial sketches are amusing. Written by norcekri

Trivia

Matt teaches Harriet a joke: "A Jewish guy calls his mother and says, 'Mom! How are you?' And the mother says, 'Terrible. I haven't eaten in 38 days.' And he says, 'Why haven't you eaten in 38 days?' And the mother says, 'I didn't want my mouth full in case you should call." In Aaron Sorkin's The West Wing (1999) Season 5, Episode 5, "Constituency of One," the character Amy tells this same joke to Josh. Writing for both episodes is credited to Eli Attie. See more »

Goofs

During the show (not rehearsal) when Danny is doing the bit with Howie Mandel, his glasses fall to his nose. Suddenly they are back on his forehead. The whole time his hands are in his pockets and it's unlikely he would have had time to reposition the glasses and resume the casual, hands-in-pockets stance. See more »

Quotes

Simon Stiles: [an air horn blows] What the hell what that?
Tom Jeter: An air horn.
Simon Stiles: Why is an air horn lying around here?
Tom Jeter: Maybe it's just for such an occasion.

A great episode, with a shock twist
31 October 2017 | by studioATSee all my reviews

This is one of my favourite episodes of 'Studio 60' as it has so much going on.

We see Jordan punt an interview with a journalist, having tried to launch a charm offensive, and the cast try to cope with a sickness bug going around, whilst also dealing with the fact that they have a very depleted writing staff.

I thought Matthew Perry was great in this episode, and again showed that he is capable of playing other characters than just 'Chandler' on 'Friends'. His dynamic with Bradley Whitford's Danny is superb.

A great episode, with a shock twist.
