When Wanda discovers that one of Ms. Frizzle's ancestors was Redbeard the Pirate, she naturally wants to follow the treasure map he left. The map leads the class to a coral reef, where they learn firsthand that life there is risky.
Did You Know?
With this, the series' final episode, Ms. Frizzle and the kids have (allowing for artistic license) visited/studied all the things described in the theme song. Here, they visit the ocean ("spank a plankton, too"). Previously, they'd dealt with sound ("Surfin' on a sound wave" - #1.08, In the Haunted House), examined the different kind of stars ("Swingin' through the stars" - #4.07, Sees Stars), studied the human digestive tract ("Take a left at your intestine" - #1.02, For Lunch) and explored the solar system ("Take your second right past Mars" - #1.01, Gets Lost in Space). They "Navigate a nostril" in #1.03, Inside Ralphie (an episode about germs and the immune system); study volcanism ("Raft a river of lava") in #2.01, Blows Its Top and "get baked into a pie" (actually a cake) in #1.09, Gets Ready, Set, Dough. Although they never find an "octopus in the neighborhood", the kids do visit the ocean several times and spend one episode (#3.03 - Spins a Web) trapped in a 1950s B-movie where they have to help defeat a giant praying mantis that's destroying a town.
