2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
The appearance of both TARS and CASE closely resembles the Monolith from Stanley Kubrick's film; Also, 'Hans Zimmer''s score evokes the closing tones of the initial fanfare of Richard Strauss' "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" (a notable musical theme in 2001) when Cooper entered the Wormhole, and again when he exited it.
Solaris (1972)
Andrei Tarkovsky's science-fiction epic deals with space exploration and paranormal experiences beyond the understanding of science. Director 'Christopher Nolan' himself named this film as an important influence.
The Mirror (1975)
Andrei Tarkovsky's avant-garde masterpiece deals with the relativity of time and reality in a poetic way. Its non-linear structure and sudden shifts between timelines and events create a fragmented experience similar to "Interstellar". Director 'Christopher Nolan''s himself acknowledged this film as an important influence.
Capricorn One (1978)
Mention of faked space landing, same plot as this movie
Reds (1981)
'Warren Beatty''s epic about the Russian Revolution combined interviews with real-life witnesses and drama. "Interstellar" uses at the beginning a similar technique and aesthetic, but with the exception of Ellen Burstyn's character, the interview footage in "Interstellar" is taken from the Ken Burns documentary _"The Dust Bowl"(2012)_. Director 'Christopher Nolan' himself named "Reds" as the inspiration.
The Right Stuff (1983)
Theme (space exploration) and character (Cooper was an excellent pilot like Chuck Yeager) inspiration. Director 'Christopher Nolan' himself named 'Philip Kaufman''s epic film as an important inspiration.
2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984)
Donald's ('John Lithgow') wish for a hot dog at the baseball game mirrors a conversation in this movie in which he admits the most thing he misses about earth is hotdogs.
Aliens (1986)
Both protagonists wake up in a space station hospital bed after fighting for their survival in space and are told that they have been gone for over 50 years making their daughters who they promised to return to older than them. They were also both found by chance.
Contact (1997)
A larger than life love story between a father and his daughter, also featuring Matthew McConaughey in a main role and sharing a Wormhole as a major plot device.
Event Horizon (1997)
When Romilly (David Gyasi) explains to the crew how a wormhole works, by putting a pen through a piece of paper to connect two dots, he does it in the same way as Dr. Weir (Sam Neill) in "Event Horizon".
Armageddon (1998)
Father and daughter being found by NASA, the father agreeing to go on one way mission to daughters grief
The Thin Red Line (1998)
'Hans Zimmer''s score opens each film begins with a sustained organ chord from a classical piece.
Signs (2002)
'Hans Zimmer''s score evokes notes from James Newton Howard's theme to M. Night Shyamalan's film during the cornfield chase sequence.
When Time Becomes a Woman (2012)
Both films talk about the end of the human race, both Zad and Cooper experience the relativity of time by traveling to a black hole, leading that the people on earth aged a lot while they didn't
The Amazing World of Gumball: The Tape (2013) (TV Episode)
During the very beginning of the episode when it says the title and towards the end when Darwin talks about circles, the song "Cornfield Chase" is played.
