Ford becomes the victim of identify theft and is arrested by police and jailed. Although friends Hart, Golden, and even Kingsfield rescue him, his brush with reality leaves his presumption of the rectitude of the legal system badly shaken.
The idea behind "Mistaken Identity" is a very interesting one. However, its execution was seriously flawed...so much that it mostly undoes the good of the episode.
Ford is on his way for a date. However, he's pulled over by police and soon he's under arrest--as the cops think he's wanted in California! Once arrested, the police hold him for days...and his friends have no idea where he is. Once they learn, Golden comes to help him.
Okay...let's talk about the problems. First, according to the previous episodes, Ford is from a VERY prominent family of lawyers who control an ultra-prestigious law firm. Yet, inexplicably, he never phones his father nor his father's firm. Considering he's in jail and is under arrest, you'd assume this would be who he called. But instead, he talks (briefly) to the girlfriend he's planning on seeing and tries (unsuccessfully) to call Hart. Even if he didn't contact his father's firm, why not call some OTHER firm??!! Second, when Ford is threatened by a deputy and two thugs, his reaction is illogical in every way...so much so that it's not even worth explaining. Third, after being stuck in jail for some time, he meets with Golden. Golden reminds him he's NOT a criminal lawyer yet Ford retains him as his attorney. Huh?? No wonder he ends up spending so much time in jail!
Overall, I'd say this episode (along with the previous one) was incredibly weak.
