While Ida and Martin sit with Donny one evening as Rhoda and Joe are out, Ida comes to the conclusion that she wants to be a grandmother. Upon hearing this news, Rhoda emphatically tells her that she and Joe are not at the stage of even contemplating having children. Ida is not perturbed by this news as it comes from stubborn Rhoda, and she has one other daughter who is more malleable upon who she can focus, namely Brenda. Brenda somewhat appreciates her mother's efforts to set her up in theory, but doesn't like that Ida seems to think that she knows better than Brenda who she should date and ultimately marry. In Brenda's estimation, Ida seems to be scraping the bottom of the man pool in finding her dates. So Brenda decides to stand up for herself and tell Ida no more set-ups, which leads to mother and daughter not speaking to each other. Brenda meets a client at the bank who she would like to date, and to her amazement and a little help from Rhoda, Brenda and "Paul" do end up dating....
