Trivia

Whenever an episode was taped, there were two separate performances which were later edited together into the televised episode. According to Rob Reiner, act two of the first performance did not generate much interest from the audience. So during the break between performances, the actors got together and improvised a whole new act two for the second performance. This one appears on the completed episode. See more »

Just read McGannahan Skjellyfetti's review!!!

I would have to say that of all the episodes of "All in the Family" that "The Longest Kiss" is probably the worst. The episode is directionless, looks 100% improvised and falls completely flat and there's nothing good to say about the show. What makes this worse is that the previous two episodes were all about Archie's disappearance and the final episode in the trilogy, this one, simply begins by Edith announcing that Archie is fine and is heading home!!! Talk about being anti-climactic. Then, inexplicably, Gloria and Mike spend the rest of the episode arguing for no reason whatsoever...none. While Mike was sometimes a hypocritical fat-head on "All in the Family", here he's just nasty and hateful towards his wife. WHY!?!? I have no idea...but it's not fun watching these two sparring throughout the show. At least with Archie and Michael arguing there was a point....here it's simply arguing for the sake of arguing. Pointless and about as fun as sticking lima beans up your nose. Did it end any better? No...the ending was incredibly contrived and made little sense...making me wonder if anyone really cared that week they made this one.
