At an award ceremony for radio stations, Johnny is selected the most popular personality, but the station loses in the most improved station category. At work, everyone starts bickering over everything and they have to work out their issues.
At the annual Cincinnati Broadcasters' Awards, Johnny surprisingly wins the Air Personality of the Year award in the small station category, it an accolade in which he doesn't really truly believe, but the moment which he relishes anyway. However, WKRP loses the Most Improved Station award, which everyone at the station thought they were a shoo-in to win. Back at the station the next day, everyone is at each other's throats - figuratively and literally - over seemingly minor issues. Eventually, everyone, despite not liking analysis, realizes that they have to work through the arguments or continue fighting. It isn't until the clear head among the group is able to assess and define what is going on that the WKRP family members can move from dysfunction back to what is at least WKRP normalcy.
