A nutty Nazi and his insane plan to create the Fourth Reich!
3 October 2017 | by MartinHaferSee all my reviews

The plot to "The Last Battle" seems pretty silly today, though back in the 1960s several other programs (such as "Mission: Impossible") had episodes about a Fourth Reich. After all, WWII was only 20 years in the past and the notion of a reformed Nazi empire didn't seem quite as ridiculous as it does now. This is NOT to say the episode isn't silly!

The show begins with Admiral Nelson aboard an airliner when the seemingly impossible occurs...several armed passengers take him prisoner, don parachutes and make Nelson leave the plane mid-flight! It's very much like what happened just a few years later with D.B. Cooper and his infamous air-escape.

Soon Nelson finds himself in a weird POW camp...along with several other top scientists who have been reported dead or missing. It seems a nutty Nazi has kidnapped them to use them to create weapons for him. He also plans on capturing the Seaview when it inevitably comes to rescue him. What is the nutty Nazi's plan? To start a nuclear war between the USA and USSR and when they've destroyed each other, his new and improved Nazis will rule what's left of the world!

The bottom line is that although the idea is silly, the episode is fun to watch. Of course, MANY episodes of the series are silly...so you cannot really hold this against the episode. Worth seeing if you are a fan.
