Storyline

Jerry connects with a Miss America pageant contestant, Miss Rhode Island, at a Yankees game and asks her out on a date. They have to have a chaperone however and and Kramer volunteers. It turns out Kramer knows a lot about how to win a beauty pageant and is soon Miss Rhode Island's personal trainer. After being turned down for a job at a major book publisher, Elaine is hired by Justin Pitt as his personal assistant. Her first task is to go out and buy him new socks. George meanwhile is surprised to learn that the Yankees uniforms are made of polyester and switches them to cotton, with major repercussions. Written by garykmcd

Season 6, Episode 1, "The Chaperone"

Season 5 of Seinfeld was a tough act to follow. The season 6 premiere was a decent episode with some hilarious moments, but it doesn't rise to the standards set be season 5 and is ultimately less memorable than most.

The episode had to deal with the repercussions of two major events from the season 5 finale. George's new job with the NY Yankees was explored for comedic possibilities and it has some solid moments, though it will become better later on in the season (with George Steinbrener getting a more prominent role). Elaine, who lost her job in the season 5 finale, didn't stay unemployed for long, and the season 6 opener finds her meeting her new boss - Mr. Justin Pitt, played by the wonderful Ian Abercrombie, who would supply some of the season's finest moments.

A good episode but not great; look for better things further on in the season.
