To his close friends' surprise and dismay, truck driver Mike Polichek begins giving expensive gifts to his new girlfriend Thelma Richards. When Thelma tearfully tells Mike she must leave to raise $5,000 to save her father's struggling business, he reluctantly agrees to take part in a staged hijacking. Mike decides not to go through with the scheme but is forced to do so at gunpoint and is subsequently arrested for complicity in the crime. Bart Matthews believes strongly that Mike is not complicit in the crime, but he finds Mike curiously unwilling to provide the information he needs to prepare a defense. In an attempt to get Mike to open up about the facts, Bart works closely with police officials to determine the true identity of the thieves and convince Mike that Thelma may not be all that he believes her to be.
