Amos eagerly retires, handing over his sheriff's star to real estate agent Harry Pierce, but then Beverly Gareth is found electrocuted in her locked bathroom. She was the heir to land of vital importance to a 400 condo Cabot Cove coast development project. The town is flooded by gossip letters badmouthing almost everyone in Cabot Cove, only one of which was sent by Elvira Tree, who is next found hanged. Jessica, New York travel reporter Michael Digby and Amos discover both women were murdered. Meanwhile, the new sheriff Pierce arrests repairman Larry Burns, who allegedly didn't fix Beverly's fatally ragged electric cord, Adam Frobisher for trying to remove items from the house, and Friedrich Hoffman who was trying to leave town.

When Jessica and Amos Tupper are in Beverly's basement and they hear Adam coming to the basement, Jessica turns off the light bulb and then grabs it to unscrew it and take it with her to hide behind the boxes. The light had been on for several minutes so the bulb would have been too hot for her to handle bare-handed immediately upon turning the light off. See more
