When Archie's appeal for a grant from the council is rejected, Hector is forced to reveal a secret concerning Edith Rankin, chairwoman of the council. Simultaneously, Golly and Fergal each bribe Duncan in the hopes of securing his help in their individual projects.
Archie's dream of turning Glenbogle estate into a tourist attraction rests with his grant application to the local council. Katrina, now a local councilor, assures him that his proposal is a winner. Neither of them however were quite prepared for Edith Rankin, the formidable head of the Council. She cuts Archie's presentation in mid-sentence and ensures everyone votes against the proposal. Archie won't take no for an answer and with Katrina's help, tries to persuade the other members of council to support him. Rankin is considerably more difficult than her colleagues and as Archie learns, his father has something to do with it. Relations between Fergal and Golly are still frosty as both of them try to get Duncan's help. Archie is a tad jealous - though he would never admit it - when Katrina and Fergal go on a date.
