Trivia

The title is from the song "Some Enchanted Evening", that comes from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "South Pacific" which took place in the same setting as McHale's Navy. The original Broadway production opened at the Majestic Theater on April 7, 1949, ran for 1925 performances starring Mary Martin as Nellie Forbush and Ezio Pinza as Emile de Becque, and won the 1950 Tony Award for the Best Musical, Libretto and Score. Claudine Longet pushes this rating up the scale.
21 October 2014 | by kfo9494See all my reviews

Claudine Longet makes her second and last appearance as the beautiful Yvette Gerard where she has invited Ensign Parker out to their plantation on a nearby island. Binghamton will not let him go citing that there are Japanese radio jamming stations that need to be addressed. But McHale violates those order and makes Parker believe he is on a special mission to the Gerard's island.

But things go wrong when the Japanese land on the island and set up a jamming station. Parker is going to have to pose as Yvette's husband to avoid arrest.

Tim Conway does a nice job of pretending to be a Frenchman as he plays a slick cigarette smoking and mustache wearing man-about-town. The writers did overplay the buffoon parts of Conway but it did not overshadow the nice performance that Mr Conway was giving. And anytime you have Claudine Longet in the cast you know there is going to be some serious eye-candy. Overall a nice show.
