Storyline

A trio of thieves rob the Sherman Ranch and Relay station, wounding both Jess Harper and Mr. Frazer from the stage line office, who was carrying the money. With information from Jess, Slim Sherman, still sworn in as Mort Cory's deputy, is able to trail the thieves until they split up. Slim catches up with one, killing him in self defense, which puts Slim in danger when it turns out that the man he killed is Hank McGovern, son of Ellen McGovern, wealthy rancher in the area. Ellen refuses to believe her son guilty of theft and attempted murder especially since Slim cannot produce the money or a witness. With Slim's status as a deputy affording him some protection, Ellen McGovern puts a price on his head. Slim is in a race against time to prove Hank's guilt and find the money before Hank's two partners or he loses his own life. Slim's only allies are the reluctant Laurie McGovern, sister of the dead man and the equally reluctant Jim Lassel, Ellen's ranch foreman. Written by DarSpi

The widow's son
24 January 2018 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

Three robbers go after stagecoach line executive Roy Barcroft at Sherman station and wound Barcroft and Robert Fuller. In his capacity as a deputy sheriff John Smith goes after them. The three are Ken Lynch, Kevin Hagen, and Jerry Summers.

Smith catches up with Summers but not before he's hidden the loot and shoots it out with him. But bringing the body back to town Slim Sherman discovers he's killed the son of Jeanette Nolan the widow who runs the local Ponderosa. She offers a thousand dollar bounty on his head. Only his deputy's badge from Laramie prevents most from trying to collect.

I think it's a given that all will turn out right in the end. But it's an interesting story. It also shows that Slim Sherman if provoked can get as nasty as Jess Harper usually can.
