Storyline

Its winter and the Sioux are at war and the Wyoming Territory has become their battleground. Slim Sherman and Jess Harper have to close up Sherman Ranch and Relay Station, sending Jonesy and Andy Sherman to Laramie and to safety. Slim and Jess volunteer with the Army as civilian scouts. Jess ends up as guide for Custer and Slim is assigned to guide a mule train carrying dynamite up to a critical mountain pass to a lone soldier who will carry out the mission. The pass must be blown up to prevent the Cheyenne from joining the Sioux and trapping Custer's forces between them. It's up to Slim, aided by a beautiful white woman who has been a Cheyenne captive, to win the battle against the elements, against the Cheyenne and against the betrayal of white trappers to make sure that the mission succeeds when they arrive to find their military contact dead. Goofs

The only commanding General Howard in the Wyoming Territory during this era was Gen. Oliver O. Howard --- a Brigadier (one star) general, not a Major General (two star) as seen in the office scene --- and this General Howard had only one arm (lost it in the Civil War), not two as shown. Also, Howard was commanding officer beginning in 1882; General Custer died in 1876. See more »

No easy trek
9 December 2017 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

As most who are any kind of students of the old west, the Civil War and the Reconstruction period, General Oliver O. Howard lost an arm during the Civil War. Yet in this Laramie episode Harvey Stephens portrays with two good arms. Really a bad goof.

The story has both John Smith and Robert Fuller called up in the cavalry reserve because the Sioux and Cheyenne are on the warpath. Fuller gets to guide General Custer to his destiny and Jess Harper escapes Custer's fate because he's back for the next Laramie episode.

But Smith gets to take a small detail to set off a charge of dynamite to start an avalanche to block a key pass so the Cheyenne can't join the Sioux. Not an easy trek by any means as the detail has to face the snows in the high country.

And then there's Madelyn Rhue a white woman whom they 'rescue' from the Cheyenne. She's gone pure Stockholm and her sympathies are with the Cheyenne.

You'll have to see how this one works out for Slim Sherman.
