It is another episode involving shoplifting and the manager wants a prosecution at all costs.

Young Maggie Norman is taken to the police station and her toddler's pram has goods concealed inside. Inspector Kate Longton has had a run in with Maggie previously when she was a tearaway.

Maggie's probation officer though is fighting tooth and nail for people to go easy on her.

Meanwhile Longton is surprised to discover that her boyfriend John has a daughter from a previous relationship.

It is a case of second chances. Inspector Longton has views set in stone about Maggie. The probation officer explains to her that Maggie has turned her life around and has fostered two kids, she is hoping to adopt the toddler.

You do wonder what Longton and John talk to each other about as they seem to be perfect strangers here. He does not even know that she does not like coffee. I wonder if the order of transmission of the episodes were later switched.

As for Inspector Longton, here she is of the view that once a villain, always a villain.

The probation officer is played by Lizzie Mickery who is now an acclaimed screenwriter.
