MPAA Rated PG for thematic content, violence and language involving racism, and for brief sensuality

Sex & Nudity

  • We see Ernie lying beside his girlfriend on a bed (both are clothed). They do some brief kissing and he then playfully starts to unbutton her top, making a playful football yardage analogy as his hand moves down her torso. That's interrupted, however, when a drop of blood hits her bare belly (we see her in her bra), and nothing else happens.

Violence & Gore

  • During practice, one of the other players delivers a cheap and hard shot on Ernie after a play has ended. Moments later, Ernie blocks him quite hard, knocking him to the ground. When he goes over and reaches out his hand to help him up, that player pulls him down instead and the two struggle on the ground before being separated.
  • The same player from above calls the equipment manager "squirrel," and when Ernie complains about that, he tells Ernie that he can shine his shoes. Ernie then shoves him back into the lockers, followed by him doing the same back to Ernie, with more struggling until they're separated.
  • A white player delivers a hard and cheap shot on Ernie after a play is dead. That's followed by more hitting on Ernie during the game, resulting in a big fight where both benches empty onto the field and there's punching and struggling, etc.
  • New update: Ernie has beer bottles thrown on him and they shatter, but it doesn't apparently hurt.

  • I decided to watch this before I viewed it with my 10-year-old biracial grandson who has never heard the "N" word nor dealt with any racism as far as I am aware. This is a really good movie, but I'm going to wait until he's at least 14.Needs a PG-13 rating.
  • 8 "s" words, 8 asses, 5 hells, 13 damns. Several usages of the N-word. (Update; not literally for the 8 a**es.)

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • To prove a point to a prospective college player, Ernie picks up a bottle with no label and states that it could be a soda or beer bottle.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some white boys surround young Ernie and young Will out on the railroad tracks, asking why they've crossed a street boundary and that they're collecting their (the white boy's) bottles. Will takes off, hitching an impromptu ride on a passing train, but Ernie stands his ground and won't give up his bottles. Ernie then blasts through several of them, avoids a baseball bat swung at him, and then runs away as fast as he can, eventually losing the boys who give up the chase.
  • New update; This movie definitely deserved a PG-13. A PG is just wrong. People call Ernie "nigger", "negro" and stuff, and they say the word "sh**" one too many times, also some heavy racist comments, and, themes.
